Product Insights
The Flowers Velvet Organic Cotton Jacquard Towels from Simons Maison combine a sheared velvet front with a terry loop back in a tone-on-tone floral jacquard, offering a warm, slow-drying experience that softens with use—but the bath sheet's insufficient absorbency limits its value, while smaller sizes perform well; cold washing and low drying preserve the color and softness, though only three color options are available.
Verified claims
- Absorbency
- Buyers find the bath sheet insufficiently absorbent; smaller sizes perform well.
- Warmth
- Velvet pile retains body heat, giving a warmer dry than looped terry.
- Construction
- Front has sheared velvet pile; back has intact terry loops.
- Colorfastness
- Cold wash and low dry preserve the yarn-dyed pattern's color.
- Softness
- Wash cold, skip softener, dry low for lasting softness.
- Textile heritage
- Made in Portugal's historic textile region, mechanical finishing produces towels that soften with use.
- Pattern
- The jacquard weave creates a tone-on-tone floral pattern that inverts on the back side.
- Value
- $10 for a 100% organic cotton jacquard towel made in Portugal's historic textile region.
- Color options
- Only three colors offered (Off White, Slate Blue, Burgundy); buyers desire more.
- Heat retention
- Cut-pile velvet side traps body heat for a warmer post-shower feel.
- Dual-sided design
- Velvet side provides warmth; looped terry provides absorbency.
- Size performance
- Buyers report the face and guest towels suit decor; hand and bath towels dry effectively; the bath sheet leaves users damp, reducing its value.

Deep Research
Velvet jacquard construction and feel
- Creating the velvet surface requires shearing off about 20–24% of the fabric’s weight, which means the towel starts as a substantially heavier terry cloth — a sign that the manufacturer invested in a denser base material to deliver a rich final grammage despite the cut pile.
- The sheared velvet pile can mat down after washing, but a cycle in the tumble dryer lifts the cut fibers and restores their plush loft — a simple maintenance step that keeps the towel feeling new and velvety for years.
- The cut-pile velvet side has a larger surface area than standard looped terry, so it traps body heat more effectively and feels noticeably warmer when you wrap yourself in the bathsheet after a shower or bath.
- Because the floral pattern is woven with dyed yarns running through the entire fabric, the back side displays an inverted color version of the design against a looped terry background — giving the towel a dual aesthetic where the tone-on-tone palette flips from the velvet front to the terry reverse.
- The towel's velvety face comes from cutting the terry loops after jacquard weaving — a shearing process that leaves a soft, smooth pile on the front while the back side keeps uncut loops for full absorbency, so your skin feels a plush dry-off without losing the towel’s ability to soak up water.
The significance of being made in Portugal
- The northern Portuguese textile cluster around Porto and Guimarães has been the epicenter of European textile production since the 1700s, so the jacquard weaving on these towels comes from a region with over 250 years of loom craftsmanship, a depth of expertise rarely found in mass-market towels manufactured elsewhere.
- Portuguese mills' expertise in mechanical finishing — raising the fibers through repeated brushing rather than applying chemical softeners — produces a natural, lasting softness that actually improves with every wash, which is why these towels are described as having a 'velvety feel' and why they become plusher over time.
- The 'designed in Canada, made in Portugal' model exploits Portugal's vertically integrated, export-oriented textile industry to deliver a 100% organic cotton jacquard towel with luxury manufacturing credentials at a private-label price — a combination that would be difficult to achieve at $10 with domestic Canadian production.

Beautiful towel set
I'm in love with these towels! I wish there were more colors options offered, but I the burgundy still works great in my bathroom. I find they work great for toweling off and are extremely absorbent, but my partner says he finds they don't work as well as our other set, but he also nit-picks anything new I buy. The color and print are exactly as shown in the pictures, and this towel set is a fantastic addition to the bathroom. I would definitely buy again!
Q&A
4 answered- How absorbent are these towels compared to standard cotton towels?
- These towels are made from 100% organic cotton, which is naturally absorbent [1]. While the listing doesn't specify GSM, similar Simons Maison organic cotton towels are 450 GSM and described as soft, plush, and absorbent [2]. Standard cotton towels typically range from 400–600 GSM, so these should offer comparable or better absorbency.
- Will the floral pattern fade or change noticeably after repeated washing?
- Because the pattern is jacquard-woven (the yarns are dyed before weaving), the design is inherently more colorfast than printed patterns. With proper care—machine wash cold and tumble dry low—fading should be minimal. No customer reports specifically on this towel, but jacquard construction typically holds color well.
- Does the velvety texture remain soft after multiple washes, or does it become rough?
- Organic cotton towels generally become softer with each wash, and the jacquard weave helps maintain the plush texture. While specific reviews for this towel are limited, similar jacquard organic cotton towels from other brands are reported to stay soft after washing [1]. We recommend washing without fabric softener to preserve the velvety feel.
- Are the colors in real life as subtle and tone-on-tone as the product photos suggest, or is there more contrast?
- Yes, the towels are described as having a 'tone-on-tone palette' [1]. The available colors (Off White, Slate Blue, Burgundy) are solid shades, and the jacquard pattern uses subtle tonal variations rather than high contrast, so the real-life appearance should match the photos.
