Product Insights
Tekla's Solid Pure Organic Cotton Percale Pillow Sham offers a crisp, cool sleep surface that heats up only 1.8°F over 90 minutes—half the temperature rise of sateen—thanks to a 200-thread-count percale woven from GOTS-certified organic cotton with extra-long staple fibers for pilling resistance and durability (8% tensile strength loss after 30 washes). The stonewashed finish provides a relaxed matte texture from first use, skipping the typical percale break-in, and hides skin oils and cream stains, but some buyers report seam ripping and fabric discoloration within a few years, and customer support often redirects defect claims to retailers. Priced at CAD $60 ($39.95 on sale), the Standard/Queen sham fits best with a king-size insert (20 x 36) and is commonly used as a decorative cover rather than a nightly pillowcase.
Verified claims
- Cooling performance
- Surface temperature rises only 1.8°F over 90 minutes, half of sateen’s 3.6°F.
- Thread count
- 200 thread count is the sweet spot for percale breathability.
- Hand feel
- The sham feels crisp, lightweight, and slightly cool initially, then softens to a fresh-washed feel without becoming floppy.
- Durability
- Loses only 8% tensile strength after 30 washes and resists pilling from long fibers.
- Value
- CAD $60 regular, $39.95 sale, with genuine 200 TC and extra-long staple cotton.
- Softness
- Stonewash finish provides a relaxed, matte texture from first use, skipping the crisp percale break-in.
- Finish & comfort
- Stonewashed single-ply 200 TC percale sleeps cool, stays crisp, and resists wrinkles.
- Sizing
- 19.75 x 35.5 Standard/Queen sham fits best with a king-size insert (20 x 36).
- Seam integrity
- Some buyers report seam ripping and fabric discoloration within a few years.
- Material longevity
- Extra-long staple cotton resists pilling and fading for 5–7 years with proper care.
- Insert size
- For the Standard/Queen sham (19.75" x 35.5"), a king-size insert (20" x 36") or a custom insert close to 20" x 35.5" gives a full fill; standard or queen pillows leave empty space.
- Certification depth
- GOTS-certified 100% organic cotton: traced farm-to-factory, no chlorine bleach or formaldehyde, and pilling-resistant long fibers.
- Social criteria
- GOTS 7.0 requires a living wage gap assessment and prohibits forced and child labor.
- Stain hiding
- The matte percale surface makes skin oils and night cream residues far less conspicuous than on lustrous sateen.
- Care methods
- Machine wash cold on low spin, line dry or low tumble; iron medium.
- Origin and certification
- Made in Portugal with GOTS certification, giving a provenance-based value edge over India-made competitors such as Quince and Coyuchi.
- Construction updates
- There is no indication the sham's seam construction has been reinforced; community feedback still mentions seam ripping and discoloration as possible issues over time, though not universal.
- Chemical safety
- GOTS certification means the sham is processed without chlorine bleach, formaldehyde, or toxic heavy metals, which reduces the risk of skin irritation for sensitive skin.

Brand comparison to Frette
The higher end Frette are still made in Italy, their lower quality stuff is made in Portugal or India. Tekla is a good brand I've found that is priced well in comparison to Frette.

Quality issues with Tekla pillow covers
I have the pillow covers which are still the same colour as it was before but the cover has completely changed and when you see it next to each other it’s incomparable. The corners are also all ripped up this was super disappointing. I contacted support twice and they essentially told me it was the vendor I purchased at would be responsible for replacing even though they did say that the quality of the product should NOT be in this condition.
