Product Insights

This matte cement candleholder from Simons Maison, priced at 18 CAD and in stock, offers a raw, unique finish with visible pits and tonal variations. It fits 2-inch and 3-inch pillar candles. The core tradeoff: its unsealed porosity readily absorbs melted wax, so sealing is recommended to prevent stains, while unsealed use requires careful wax removal with heat and a plastic scraper. Though best used indoors, outdoor use is possible with sealing to prevent moisture damage.

Verified claims

Stain prevention
Sealing prevents wax stains; unsealed cement readily absorbs melted wax.
Wax removal
Remove hardened wax with plastic scraper; blot residue with heat and paper towels.
Use location
Best used indoors; outdoor use requires sealing to prevent moisture damage.
Fit
The 3.5-inch (9 cm) top cup fits pillar candles up to about 3 inches across; standard 2-inch and 3-inch pillar candles work well, and the holder stands 8 inches (20 cm) tall.
Finish
Sculptural cement with a matte, raw, natural travertine-like finish that shows visible variations in tone and texture.
Indoor use
The foam pads on the bottom protect indoor surfaces but may degrade outdoors; unsealed cement can also be damaged by outdoor moisture.
Shipping durability
One buyer reports the holder arrived broken because it was poorly wrapped for shipping; customer service later issued a refund.
Stable base for 3-inch pillar candles
Solid cement gives the tower a low, bottom-weighted center of gravity, so a 3-inch pillar candle sits securely even though the column is only 3.5 inches (9 cm) across and has no wide, flared foot.
Heat safety
The cement body stays cool to the touch during a normal burn because cement conducts heat slowly and the flame sits at the top; placing the holder on a coaster or heat-safe tray is still a sensible precaution on finished wood or fabric.

Displaying candles without marking your surfaces

This cement candleholder comes with foam pads on the bottom that are designed to protect the surface it sits on, so you can place it on a coffee table, shelf, or mantel while burning a candle.[1]
