Product Insights
This outdoor cushion from Simons Maison offers a removable, washable cover at a price significantly lower than competitors, using hypoallergenic recycled polyester fill that resists moisture, mold, and dust mites. The cover's water repellency and protective treatments diminish with washing, requiring reapplication of aftermarket sprays to restore, though these cannot replenish factory UV inhibitors or anti-mould agents—making indoor storage the most reliable protection against fading, mildew, and moisture retention. The cushion holds its shape after washing and storage, but lacks ties or non-slip backing, making it prone to slipping on flat surfaces and in wind.
Verified claims
- Competitive pricing
- At $14.99, this cushion undercuts top competitors by 50-62% and adds a removable, washable cover.
- Care
- Machine wash the cover at a maximum of 30–40°C on a gentle cycle, air dry in the shade, avoid tumble drying and ironing, and reapply a fabric protector after cleaning to restore diminished treatments.
- Moisture resistance
- The polyester fill absorbs less than 1% moisture and dries quickly, but if the cover becomes saturated from heavy rain the fill can absorb and hold moisture and may dry slowly.
- Cover protection durability
- Cover's protective treatments degrade with washing; water repellency can be restored with aftermarket sprays.
- Storage
- Storing indoors is the most reliable way to prevent moisture retention and mildew over the product's life.
- Water repellency
- Machine washing reduces water repellency; reapply a fabric protector after each wash.
- Restoration sprays
- Sunbrella Restore and 303 Marine Fabric Guard can restore water repellency on polyester; 303 is specifically noted not to stiffen or discolor the fabric.
- Limitations
- Restoration sprays do not replenish factory UV inhibitors or anti-mould agents.
- Hypoallergenic
- 100% recycled polyester fill is hypoallergenic, resisting moisture, mold, and dust mites.
- Wash durability
- Cushion fill and cover resist shrinkage and remain durable through repeated machine washing.
- Shape retention
- The polyester fabric and fill resist shrinking and warping, so the cushion holds its shape through washing and temperature changes.
- Securement
- This cushion has no ties, straps, or non-slip backing; it is a standard square cushion with a removable cover and hidden zip.
- Fading and mildew
- Aftermarket sprays can't replenish UV inhibitors or anti-mould agents; storage is essential to prevent fading and mildew.
- Dimensional stability
- Polyester fabric and fill resist shrinkage and warping, so the cushion keeps its shape after washing and temperature changes.
- Attachment
- Lacks tie-up fastener of monochrome cushion but offers removable cover.
- Style
- Patterned Red option: dense floral print on rust; monochrome cushion solid yellow.
- Mould resistance
- The cover has an anti-mould treatment.
- UV protection
- The cover provides UV protection.
