Product Insights
This Veradek planter offers a fluted Doric column form on an acacia base, delivering the look of vintage fluted planters costing $1,150 per pair for only $90 CAD, but it requires annual sealing of the wood base to prevent freeze-thaw cracking and fits only a 10-inch nursery pot—not a 5-gallon or 12-inch pot—due to an internal taper. Its stone-plastic composite withstands freeze-thaw cycles, impacts, and UV fading without chipping or cracking, though the black finish will fade to silver-gray over time (cosmetic only). The textured matte surface hides scuffs, but the planter lacks handholds and weighs about 42 pounds when filled, so it must be positioned before adding soil. An internal false shelf aids drainage and root rot prevention, but it is optional and may need to be removed with tools. There is no overflow protection; a saucer helps, but the acacia base still needs sealant. This is a durable, winter-engineered planter for harsh Canadian climates that trades off pot size flexibility and maintenance simplicity for authentic vintage style and cold-weather resilience.

Veradek as an affordable alternative
Damn, I love those (landscape collection). Wish I could afford them. Ended up buying Veradek, $140 for a 3-foot long rectangular box container was too good to pass up.

Assembly and weight issues with Veradek planter
I have this exact planter. That is a shelf and it’s meant to stay under the dirt so that water can flow downward and not cause rot. I honestly don’t think you need to remove it. The shelves in mine did seem to come out easily if I remember correctly, but again, I’m not sure you should need to remove it. One tip for you… Those planters get very heavy when they’re full of dirt. You may want to put it on a coaster with wheels, or move the planter to where it’ll stay before you fill it with dirt. There’s also no good place to grab onto the planter to move it so it’s a little awkward. I do love these planters though. I have 10 I think.
