Product Insights
The Laguiole Heritage Natural Wood Steak Knife Set 6-Pack offers authentic French craftsmanship with blades stamped 'LAGUIOLE' and 'HERITAGE FRANCE', full-tang construction revealed by three brass rivets, and stainless steel at 56-58 HRC for corrosion resistance and home sharpening. At $120 for six, each knife costs $20—less than half premium French brands—with full-tang balance reducing wrist fatigue and preventing accordion cuts, while one-piece steel ensures functionality even if the wood handle cracks. However, frequent honing is needed (steel realigns in seconds without chipping), and hand washing is required to preserve the wood finish; stainless steel resists acidic foods without special drying or oiling, making it suitable for regular use despite the maintenance tradeoff. The set is often recommended as a gift due to its French origin and craftsmanship.

Guide to genuine Laguiole knife makers
Laguiole en Aubrac, Forge de Laguiole, Fontenille Pataud and Arbalete are high quality. Au Sabot is a very good budget option. Beware of anything where the maker is located outside of Laguiole or Theirs.

Laguiole steak knives are decorative and need frequent sharpening
Laguiole en Aubrac is the largest of all the regional forges that make laguiole style knives, so perhaps they would have the better quality control as all these knives are factory made. I would choose whichever you like better, a steak knife like the ones you are looking at are just decoration/jewelry and any of them will cut terribly if you dont sharpen them often, like very often, specially if you use them on ceramic, porcelain, or stoneware plates. So, get whichever you like more.

Soft steel requires frequent sharpening for Laguiole steak knives
Site look legit, but never used it. That steel is pretty soft so will need sharpening often if used on a regular basis. I have a handful of clients that bring me sets for touchups almost monthly.
