Product Insights

Maison Dînette's Léon Blue Tablecloth blends recycled cotton and polyester to deliver a soft, nubby hand straight from the package, with wrinkle resistance, tear and abrasion reinforcement, and shrink stability that prevents the 5-8% shrinkage typical of pure cotton. At 159 CAD (79.95 CAD on sale), it offers performance and sustainability at no green premium, avoiding virgin cotton's water and pesticide load while cutting energy use by roughly 50%. The tradeoff: on round tables slightly larger than 170 cm, corner points hang.

Deep Research

How the recycled cotton-polyester blend performs

  • The polyester fraction’s low moisture absorption and thermoplastic nature render the tablecloth substantially more wrinkle-resistant than pure cotton or linen, so it comes out of the dryer or off the line needing little to no ironing—practical for a daily diner where fuss-free tidiness is expected, and especially handy around dense embroidery that would be cumbersome to press.
  • The stronger polyester threads reinforce the inherently weaker recycled cotton fibres, boosting tear and abrasion resistance so the fabric withstands daily plate-scraping, cutlery movement, and frequent laundry cycles without thinning or developing holes—extending useful life beyond what a pure recycled cotton cloth could deliver.
  • Polyester fibres do not absorb water the way cotton does, so they lock the fabric’s dimensions and prevent the progressive shrinkage that can shrink a 100% cotton tablecloth by 5–8% over repeated washes—critical for a sized cloth like the 170×250 cm variant, where even a few centimetres of contraction would throw off the overhang.
  • Recycled cotton fibers, reclaimed from textile waste, are mechanically shorter than virgin cotton, giving the fabric a softer, slightly nubby hand that feels relaxed and lived-in straight out of the package—bypassing the multiple wash cycles normally required to soften a 100% virgin cotton tablecloth.
  • Using recycled cotton diverts pre- and post-consumer textile waste from landfill and avoids the water and pesticide load of virgin cotton farming, while recycled polyester (typically from PET bottles) cuts energy consumption by roughly half compared to virgin polyester production, so the tablecloth carries a measurably smaller cradle-to-gate environmental impact without a price premium over non-recycled equivalents.

Q&A

1 answered
Is the tablecloth suitable for a round table if my table is slightly larger than the 170x170 cm square size?
A 170x170 cm square tablecloth can be used on a round table slightly larger than 170 cm in diameter. It will drape evenly with points at the corners, though a round tablecloth would provide a more traditional drop.
