My wife got me this bag as a daily use for my work laptop, notebooks, etc etc, about three years ago. Absolutely fantastic, used most daily throughout the year, in car and on train, no issues whatsoever so ever. My laptop is also 15” which fits inside no problem.

Concern about buckle closures on waxed canvas brief
I actually like the look of the Barbour bags but the Longthorpe has nylon handles and is dressed down a bit more. I didn’t like the buckle closures on the waxed canvas brief with the leather flap, feel like that would be a point of failure.

Hardware, spaciousness, and leather quality assessment
The overall quality of the hardware is fair but not too good. The hooks and brass buttons are solid, but there might be some problems with snap buttons if there are any on the bag. Again, coming back to the example of my bag - when I putchased it, it had a broken snap button inside it - the one that is designed to hold things in the net pocket of the bag. Yeasy fix, but annoying considering the pricepoint. Other than that, the quality of the materials is very good. There is plenty of tartan inner lining, waxed canvas, leather and some polyester I think inside some of the pockets. Depending on what you consider the bag for, you should choose yourself, but a fair warning, Barbour Leather Briefcase is not that spacious. It's okay for a 16" laptop, papers and all the offcie nonsense. You could probably get away with storing a fairly folded vest in there, but that's about it. If you look for something that will hold more than this, then it's not a good option. The leather part of the briefcase is solid. The quality of the leather is impecable, and with time will show beautiful patina.
