Honestly, and this is coming from a leather worker, I prefer the painted bags over dyed ones. Dyed leathers tend to bleed, patina (most people like the patina look), and are difficult to repair in my experience. Painted leathers are more easy to maintain, repair, and come in a variety of diverse colours. There's pros and cons to both. The big fashion houses use painted leathers for this reason. I hope this information helps! Also, I love Versace and I find their quality the same, if not more, superior to the likes of Chanel. It's more of a social value thing they are seen as inferior, most likely because they have sales and therefore their resale value do not hold.

Sales associate criticizes Versace bag quality for the price
Sales associate and stylist at a major luxury department store chain here. So, the thing about Versace’s handbags and leather good collections is that (besides the house of Versace’s overall aesthetic which is definitely highly specific and can be over the top - but obviously your mileage will vary when it comes to aesthetic preferences) they tend to be priced very high in comparison to the quality and design. Not only that, but they often go on deep markdowns, which makes them a brand that I and my colleagues will only buy if there’s a major sale of at least 60%+ off plus our employee discounts. The ready to wear collections are usually beautifully-made, I’d gladly buy their garments, but the bags and leather accessories just aren’t as special or made as well.

Negative durability feedback on a Versace leather bag
I have it in pink and originally bought it in the Versace sale for £333; the price was originally over £1000. The bag scratches easily, plus the leather cracks, and the bag is stiff. However the amount of discount I got on the sale I didn’t expect the bag to be great quality so I’m glad I didn’t pay full price.
