1996 is Acne’s regular fit, based on my experience it is similar to Levi’s 501. Size wise - I usually wear 501 size 32, and 1996 size 31 fits perfectly. Acne’s measurements on their website help a lot.

No shrinkage with cold wash and air drying
Neither of mine (vintage black and mid blue trash) shrank after handwashing cold and air drying flat. I think raw denim shrinks a lot more on first wash, which is also why they have a longer cut (an unwashed 32L raw denim will usually fit me as a 34L prior to washing, but then be too small after that first wash)
