They feature a recycled polyester mesh upper, CloudTec cushioning from bio-attributed Zero-Gravity foam, an engineered Speedboard, and a rubber outsole; available in white, black, and navy in US sizes 8-12. User reviews note that while the toe box is roomy, some find the cushioning stiff and uncomfortable for long walks, with the On Cloudtilt often recommended as a more comfortable alternative.

Product Insights

The On Cloud 6 sneakers for men promise a more sustainable step with ISCC-certified bio-attributed EVA midsole cutting carbon 45% and an outsole that picks up fewer rocks than its predecessor, but buyers report that the CloudTec cushioning feels firm and causes foot pain after about 3,000 steps, leading many to return them for the more comfortable Cloudtilt — a tradeoff of eco-innovation for everyday walking comfort, further complicated by a hand-wash-only care requirement and potential for odor and squeaking.

Cushioning

Buyers report the CloudTec midsole feels firm and causes foot pain after about 3,000 steps.

Why this is supported

User reports from Reddit describe the midsole as hard, with one user stating,

I can't walk in these more than 3,000 steps a day or it kills my left foot.u/jewels09 in r/ONrunning

Lab measurements confirm a moderate 54.1% energy return, and the bio-attributed EVA midsole delivers identical cushioning to traditional foam. Some users who found the Cloud 6 too firm recommend the Cloudtilt as a noticeably softer alternative. The redesigned outsole picks up fewer rocks and the Speedboard provides midfoot stability. Despite the firmness, positive reviews exist; one customer called the shoe

My absolute favorite sneaker, light weight and comfort !Customer review, October 5, 2025
Fit

Buyers report inconsistent fit despite 'broader fit' claim.

Why this is supported

The On marketing promises a 'wider opening for a broader, more inclusive fit'. However, user reports vary widely: one buyer reports

I like that they are a bit roomieru/jewels09 in r/ONrunning

, while another states

pinching my toesu/louiseyfreezy in r/ONrunning

. The inconsistency extends to pain:

I can't walk in these more than 3,000 steps a day or it kills my left foot.u/jewels09 in r/ONrunning

. Reddit threads consistently identify inconsistent fit as a major drawback.

Outsole rock pickup

Outsole picks up fewer rocks than Cloud 5, reducing pod damage risk.

Why this is supported

The Cloud 6 outsole is designed to pick up fewer stones; thatfitfriend.com notes it

Picks up fewer rocksthatfitfriend.com

compared to the Cloud 5, which reduces the risk of stone entrapment that could damage the CloudTec pods.

Durability

Hand washing only; machine washing damages mesh and CloudTec cushioning.

Why this is supported

On's official guidance for the Cloud 6 states:

hand washing only—machine washing can damage the lightweight mesh upper, weaken adhesives, and degrade the CloudTec cushioningCan the recycled polyester mesh upper be machine washed or cleaned easily, and does washing affect the performance or fit?

. Following this recommendation is critical to preserving the shoe's durability.

Speedboard comfort

Speedboard tuned for all-day comfort rather than propulsion, with 54.1% energy return and 8.8mm drop for smooth transitions and stability.

Why this is supported

On tunes the Speedboard specifically for walking comfort rather than high-speed propulsion:

The stiffer the Speedboard®, the more power. Flexible ones ensure smooth comfort.on.com

Lab tests confirm

Our machine recorded a rather moderate energy return of 54.1% in the Cloud 6.runrepeat.com

, slightly above the walking-shoe average. The plate is

A flexible plate engineered to bend at the forefoot, then push you forward.on.com

, and the 8.8 mm drop creates a fluid heel-to-toe roll. Additionally, the positioning provides

. On itself describes the speedboard as

.

Bio-attributed midsole

ISCC-certified waste-derived EVA midsole cuts carbon 45% without performance loss.

Why this is supported

On and Borealis confirm that the midsole maintains cushioning and durability –

The new midsole delivers the same comfort, cushioning, and durability the brand is known for, while significantly lowering the product’s carbon footprint.borealisgroup.com

– while achieving a quantifiable 45% lower carbon footprint by replacing fossil-based EVA with a renewable alternative. The renewable carbon comes entirely from waste streams:

Feedstock is sourced entirely from waste and residue streams, including vegetable oil production residues, waste oils, and by-products from the timber and food industries.borealisgroup.com

This claim is backed by ISCC PLUS certification, which provides independent chain-of-custody traceability. The Cloud 6 represents

The first application of the new EVA grade is in a pair of lifestyle shoes by Swiss brand Onborealisgroup.com

marking a step toward On’s fossil-free ambitions.

Model comparison

Buyers return the Cloud 6 for the more comfortable Cloudtilt.

Why this is supported

Reddit users frequently recommend switching to the Cloudtilt, with one stating it was

wayyyy better and exactly the kind of comfortable i was expectingu/National_Finger5087 in r/ONrunning

after returning the Cloud 6.

Value

Cloud 6 offers poor value at CAD 190, as comfort falls short of review promises.

Why this is supported

One buyer stated simply:

For the price, these are not worth it.u/jewels09 in r/ONrunning

Another came expecting more from positive reviews but found the shoes

Super hard and pinching my toes when every review said all this room in the toe boxu/louiseyfreezy in r/ONrunning

.

Cleaning

Hand wash only; scrubbing can damage the mesh upper and CloudTec pods.

Why this is supported

On's official care instructions state:

We recommend hand washing only—machine washing can damage the lightweight mesh upper, weaken adhesives, and degrade the CloudTec cushioning,Can the recycled polyester mesh upper be machine washed or cleaned easily, and does washing affect the performance or fit?

Independent durability tests confirm the upper

lacks wear resistancerunrepeat.com

and that

The CloudTec midsole in my 6 still suffers from the quickish breakdown that plagued my 5.thatfitfriend.com

Therefore, gentle spot-cleaning with a mild soap and air drying is advised to avoid damage.

Odor

Prone to faster odor buildup than typical sneakers; air out regularly.

Why this is supported

User reports indicate faster odor buildup compared to typical sneakers, so regular airing and occasional deodorizing are recommended.

Squeaking

Some pairs develop squeaking from debris in outsole pods; cleaning can prevent it.

Why this is supported

Some users report squeaking noises likely caused by debris trapped in the outsole pods; regular inspection and gentle cleaning of the sole can prevent or stop the noise.

Running suitability

Not designed for running; Speedboard is tuned for walking.

Why this is supported

The Speedboard is engineered for walking, not running:

Speedboard® engineered for all-day performance and supporton.com

, and lab measurements show a moderate energy return of 54.1%.

Our machine recorded a rather moderate energy return of 54.1% in the Cloud 6.runrepeat.com

This confirms the shoe is positioned for lifestyle wear, not running.

Walking comfort

Some buyers report discomfort after short walks, often returning for Cloudtilt.

Why this is supported

Reddit users report the Cloud 6 becomes uncomfortable quickly:

I just got the oncloud 6 from dicks and just walked a short distance and they suck! Super hard and pinching my toesu/louiseyfreezy in r/ONrunning

Another user could not exceed 3,000 steps without foot pain. The redesigned outsole picks up fewer rocks than the Cloud 5, a mild positive, but the overall walking experience leads many to recommend the Cloudtilt:

Get the cloudtilt's if you can. I had the same issue with Cloud 6. Returned them and got the Cloudtilt's which (for me) were wayyyy betteru/National_Finger5087 in r/ONrunning
Sustainability

Recycled EVA midsole with bio-attributed feedstock cuts carbon 45%.

Why this is supported

The Cloud 6's midsole is constructed from recycled EVA that also incorporates ISCC+ certified bio-attributed materials. According to On, the use of feedstock derived from waste cooking oil

enabling a midsole with a 45% lower carbon footprint than one based on traditional fossil-based materials.borealisgroup.com

. The feedstock is

sourced entirely from waste and residue streamsborealisgroup.com

. This gives the shoe a quantifiable sustainability advantage in its price class.

  • On Cloud 6 lack of cushion and discomfort

I like that they are a bit roomier, but they offer very little cushion in the metatarsal region. I can't walk in these more than 3,000 steps a day or it kills my left foot. For the price, these are not worth it. They are now my most uncomfortable pair of shoes. I'll be looking for an alternative for every day shoes.
