Product Insights
The Simons Maison Checkered Texture Indoor-Outdoor Rug offers a surprisingly soft underfoot feel with textured grip, made from solution-dyed polypropylene that resists stains, mold, and mildew while enabling easy cleaning with bleach, vinegar, or pressure washing. Its flatweave low pile design and three sizes in four colors allow seamless indoor-to-outdoor use, fitting under doors and furniture. The core tradeoff: while softer than recycled plastic rugs, fading becomes noticeable after two seasons of full sun exposure.
Verified claims
- Feel underfoot
- Surprisingly soft underfoot with textured grip
- Fade resistance
- 100% solution-dyed polypropylene resists fading from sun and rain.
- Fade lifespan
- Fading is noticeable after about two seasons in full sun.
- Fade comparison
- Softer underfoot but fades faster than recycled plastic rugs.
- Stain and mold
- Bleach and vinegar remove stains and mold without harming fibers.
- Deep cleaning
- Pressure washing is safe and the rug dries quickly after cleaning.
- Stain resistance
- Non-porous polypropylene repels common outdoor stains like mud, grass, and oil.
- Water resistance
- Hydrophobic fibers repel water, so the rug dries quickly and resists rot, mold, and mildew.
- Pattern versatility
- Check pattern is versatile for both indoor and outdoor use and multiple decor styles.
- Indoor-outdoor transition
- The low-profile flatweave and lightly textured design enable seamless use indoors and on patios or decks.
- Zone mapping
- Three sizes in four colors map to balcony, dining, or seating zones.
- Size
- The 245x305 cm rug at $128 CAD is entry-level priced for outdoor rugs.
- Low profile fit
- The rug has a low-profile, lightly textured flatweave that fits under sliding doors and furniture.
- Material
- Polypropylene offers wool-like softness, stain resistance, UV stability, and easy cleaning for indoor/outdoor use.
- Rug pad necessity
- The rug has no non-slip backing, so a rug pad is recommended on hard floors for added stability.
- Mold resistance
- Mold and mildew resistant — polypropylene won't absorb water or rot.
- Mold remediation
- Mildew and stains can be cleaned with vinegar, bleach, or pressure washing.
- Available sizes
- Available in three sizes: 160x215 cm, 180x275 cm, and 245x305 cm, covering a small balcony mat up to a full-size seating-area rug.
- Cleaning method
- Hose the rug down with water and mild soap and let it air dry; machine washing is not recommended because of its size.
- Available colors
- Offered in Slate Grey, Green, Blue, and Red.
- Color vividness
- The Green, Blue, and Red colorways read as tonal, lightly patterned summer color rather than a saturated block; from standing distance the small check blends into a softer, muted tone.
- Deck safety
- Safe to place directly on a wood or composite deck; the rug won't scratch the surface, but lift it periodically so the deck can dry and avoid trapped moisture.
- Shedding and new-rug odor
- Expect no meaningful fiber shedding; a mild new-rug odour is common out of the package and typically fades within a few days once aired out.
- Dining sizing
- For a 180×90 cm dining table, choose the 245×305 cm size; only that size provides the recommended 60 cm clearance past table edges.

Anchoring a minimalist living room or patio
Use this lightly textured rug to anchor a minimalist living area, where its monochrome check pattern adds depth without visual noise and pairs with neutral furniture and hardwood floors. It can also work on a patio, since the retailer describes it as suited to decorating both the house and outdoor spaces. Note that some customers report the Sand colorway arrives as a cool beige rather than the warm terracotta shown, which matters if you are matching existing furnishings.[1]
Grounding a covered patio or neutral living space
This indoor-outdoor rug is meant for decorating both the house and the patio, and its checkered weave is a customer favorite for covered patios and neutral decors, adding visual interest without clashing. Keep in mind it is thinner than many expect and lacks the heft to stay put on carpet or in windy areas, so it works best on hard floors, ideally with a non-slip pad.[1]
Under your covered patio dining set
Customers report this checkered indoor-outdoor rug works well under a patio dining table, where its flat, clean-friendly surface stands up to dropped food and drink splashes. The thin build lets chairs glide over it easily, and most messes wipe away with a damp cloth or quick hose-down.[1]
Low-profile rug for a spacious foyer or mudroom
Customers use this checkered rug as a practical, low-maintenance anchor in a foyer or mudroom, where its low-pile build clears door swings and dirt shakes out readily. Note that it's thinner than many expect — it works best on hard floors with a non-slip pad — and its standard dimensions can overwhelm a typical doormat space, so measure carefully for a compact entry.[1]

| Checkered Texture Indoor-Outdoor Rug See Available Sizes: Choose this if you want a lightly textured, indoor-outdoor rug with a discreet two-tone checkered weave for a patio, dining area, or minimalist living space, offered in Slate Grey, Green, Blue, and Red in three sizes up to 245 x 305 centimetres. Its 100% polypropylene build is described by the retailer as easy-care, quick-dry, and fade-resistant, and customers report the flat surface repels liquids and wipes clean or hoses down easily, with chairs gliding over the thin, low pile. Note that it is thinner than many expect and can feel flimsy to those wanting a heavier rug, stays put best on hard floors with a non-slip pad rather than on carpet or in wind, and has no smaller size for doormat-scale entryways.[1] | Micro-Check Indoor-Outdoor Rug See Available Sizes: Choose this if you want a versatile rug adapted for both indoor and outdoor use, with an easy-care, durable polypropylene build and a low 0.2 inch (0.5 cm) pile in a black-and-white micro-checkerboard pattern. It comes in three rectangular sizes (160 x 215 cm, 180 x 275 cm, and 240 x 305 cm) with a sewn serged edge and jute backing, though the merchant recommends adding a rug pad for greater safety.[2,3,4] | Irregular Checkerboard Rug See Available Sizes: Choose this if you want an ultra-modern, low-pile rug with an ivory and ashy blue irregular checkerboard pattern and a slightly embossed, mixed-texture design. It is described by the merchant as exquisitely soft, easy-care, durable, and stain-resistant, made of heat-set polypropylene, and comes in Patterned Blue variants sized 160 x 230 cm and 240 x 320 cm. Note that a rug pad is recommended for greater safety.[5,6,7] |

Coup de coeur
Couleur, texture, grandeur, parfait pour nous. Il est mince et doux, facile à déplacer au besoin. Le revêtement est de belle qualité.
Great rug for under kitchen table
Looks nice and easy to clean at a good price. Just wish it came in a smaller size to use as a large door mat.

Super beau
Checkered texture indoor-outdoor rug
I ordered this in "Sand", which appears to be a light terracotta colour online. In real life it's a light beige. I absolutely hate it, but it's too much bother to return, so I'll hope my patio furniture covers it up. The colour differential is really extreme – no bueno.
