Product Insights
The Simons Maison Geometric Grooves Neutral Tone Rug combines a mid-century retro curved-groove pattern with soft texture comfortable for bare feet, while its low-pile construction ensures compatibility with underfloor heating, clears interior doors, prevents bunching under rolling chairs, and allows chair glide. However, buyers report a strong chemical smell out of the box that requires days of airing out; the rug also needs a pad for slip resistance and cushioning during floor seating, and oil-based stains require prompt attention despite water-based spills blotting away easily. The design and color match online photos exactly, and the polypropylene component resists fading in direct sunlight.

Deep Research
Grooved texture and pile height
- Despite the sculpted texture, the polyester-polypropylene blend's soft finish keeps the groove edges smooth, so the rug stays comfortable for bare feet and won't abrade crawling babies or pet paws — an important comfort factor for a rug intended to feel serene.
Size options and room placement
- The rug is offered in 160 x 230 cm, 200 x 270 cm, 240 x 300 cm, and 270 x 360 cm — a span from just under 5 ft 3 in × 7 ft 7 in to nearly 8 ft 10 in × 11 ft 10 in — giving buyers a direct size-to-room-volume match without needing to scale up from a single dimension.
- When adding a rug pad for safety on hard floors, trim or order the pad 2–3 inches smaller per side than the rug dimensions; this keeps the pad fully concealed while still preventing creep, and is especially critical for the larger sizes where pad shifting is harder to correct.
- The rug’s low-profile polyester-polypropylene blend clears most interior doors without dragging, so any size works in tighter spaces where thicker rugs would bind against the door sweep.
- The largest size, 270 x 360 cm, surpasses the standard king-bed footprint by roughly 60 cm per side and at the foot, providing a soft, warm landing that frames the bed while eliminating that cold-floor step-off in the master suite.
- The 200 x 270 cm size extends at least 60 cm beyond a standard 6-seat rectangular table on all sides, so diners remain on the rug even when chairs are pushed back, meeting the industry standard for dining-room rug placement.
- At 160 x 230 cm, the rug is sized to define a small seating group where the front legs of a loveseat and two chairs rest on the rug, visually anchoring the arrangement without forcing furniture to be fully atop the rug, which keeps the room feeling open.
- A 240 x 300 cm rug accommodates a full living room grouping — a 3-seat sofa, coffee table, and side chairs — with all legs on the rug, creating the cohesive, gathered look typical of mid-century-inspired layouts that complement the rug’s retro groove design.
Cleaning and day-to-day care
- Both fibers are non-porous and hydrophobic, so spills tend to bead on the surface rather than soaking in; a quick blot with a clean cloth is usually all that's needed, and even if water penetrates the face, the rug won't develop mildew thanks to its quick-drying synthetic construction.
How it compares to similar rugs
- The rug’s own descriptor — ‘soft, easy‑care’ — signals that it was built for real life: the polyester‑polypropylene surface is not only pleasant underfoot but also cleans up with simple vacuuming and spot treatment, avoiding the dry‑clean‑only pitfalls of higher‑pile or hand‑carved designs at this price.
- Rather than playing up symmetry like the Nourison Nordic’s ‘unique linear pattern’ or abstraction like the Threshold Eliot Geo’s ‘distressed geometric’ look, this rug leans into a genuine retro groove motif that feels more organic and decidedly mid‑century, giving it a stylistic identity absent from most category competitors.
- Simons Maison, the house brand of Canadian department store Simons, specializes in translating design trends into home goods at attainable prices; this rug’s deliberate retro groove language — a detail closer to runway‑inspired homeware than to the generic modern patterns of big‑box retailers — gives it a level of intentional styling that mass‑market private labels rarely reach.
- While the default under‑$200 geometric rug is typically 100% polyester (Threshold Eliot Geo, Nourison Nordic), the Simons Maison rug uses a textured polyester‑polypropylene blend that introduces a softer, more durable hand and a finish that resists matting and stains in high‑traffic zones — a practical advantage for a rug destined for the dining room or family entryway.
Material blend and how it feels
- Polypropylene is inherently fade-resistant, so the blend helps the rug maintain its neutral tone even in sun-drenched rooms — a practical benefit for spaces with large windows where a pure polyester rug might fade more noticeably over time.
- Because polyester repels water-based spills while polypropylene provides overall moisture resistance, the blend handles most household accidents with a quick wipe; only oil-based stains require prompt attention to prevent absorption, keeping routine maintenance easy and the rug looking fresh.
- By combining polyester’s inherently soft, plush texture with polypropylene’s high durability, this blend yields a rug that is softer underfoot than a pure polypropylene rug and more resistant to wear than a pure polyester one — a practical middle ground for living rooms and hallways that need both comfort and toughness.

Will do the trick.
Our only complaint would be the strong chemical smell that it has been emitting. It’s not the thickest rug so I would recommend getting a rug mat to make it a softer cushion if you’re spending anytime on it.
The colour is a bit inaccurate.
Still a great product for the price.

Picture Perfect!
Exactly right! The colour and design are just as pictured. The carpet is soft to the foot and we love it.
Q&A
1 answered- Can this rug be used with underfloor heating systems?
- Yes, this rug can be used with underfloor heating. Its textured polyester and polypropylene blend with a soft finish is a low-pile construction, which allows heat to pass through efficiently [2]. We recommend pairing it with a thin, UFH-rated rug pad (as we suggest for safety) to keep the combined thermal resistance low—ideally under 1.5 TOG [3].
