Product Insights

The Mykonos Bracelet offers an affordable $35 CAD price (26% below US pricing and 64% less than a Mejuri alternative) with a hypoallergenic stainless steel core that remains safe if the gold plating wears off, but the plating is prone to early failure (some users report issues after first wear) and the water resistance claim contradicts care instructions to avoid water; returns are store-credit only with the buyer paying return shipping, and customer service is reportedly unhelpful, making the main tradeoff low initial cost versus uncertain longevity and weak post-purchase support.

Deep Research

Value compared to similar bracelets

  • The identical Mykonos Bracelet is listed at $35 USD on Parallel, meaning the $35 CAD price on Simons equates to roughly $26 USD at mid-2025 exchange rates — a tangible cross-border discount that makes purchasing from Canada about 26% cheaper for US buyers.
  • At $35 CAD, the Mykonos Bracelet costs 64% less than Mejuri's $98 Gold Vermeil Flat Curb Chain Bracelet, which uses 3.8mm curb chain versus the Mykonos' 3mm bead chain; both deliver a gold-toned, everyday wrist presence, but the price gap reflects the difference between thick 18k vermeil on sterling silver and standard gold-plated stainless steel.
  • The Mykonos Bracelet’s $35 CAD price sits well above the €4.25 wholesale cost of a comparable 14k gold-plated stainless steel heart charm bracelet from Yehwang, but that premium buys a Canadian-designed piece sold through Simons, a heritage department store, which brings retail accountability and a local design story that generic wholesale alternatives cannot match.

Adjustable extender chain and wrist sizing

  • Twenty Compass specifies the extender chain at exactly 1 inch, not the typical 2–3 cm — so the total length range is 6.1 to 7.1 inches, a precise window derived from the brand’s own measurements rather than an estimated 2–3 cm addition.
  • Sold as a single size (the equivalent of the brand’s Medium), the Mykonos Bracelet is engineered for wrists measuring roughly 6 to 7 inches — the 6.1-inch base chain gives a snug fit on larger wrists and no larger option exists.

What 14k gold plating means for this bracelet

  • The bracelet is explicitly labeled hypoallergenic by Twenty Compass, and because stainless steel is inherently non-reactive, it is less likely to provoke nickel sensitivity or turn skin green than fashion pieces built on brass or copper cores — reassurance for buyers who have had irritation from cheap jewelry.
  • Twenty Compass specifies '14k Gold Plated' on its own product page, meaning the top layer uses an alloy that is 58.3% pure gold — a deliberate choice over lower-karat (10k) plating that gives the bracelet a warmer, more traditional gold tone without the paleness of cheaper electroplate.
  • 14k gold-plated fashion jewelry typically retails between $25 and $80; at $35, the Mykonos Bracelet lands in the entry-level of that band — priced for buyers who want the look of gold over a durable steel base for outfits that rotate regularly rather than a piece they expect to wear unchanged for years.
  • Stainless steel ranks 5.5–6.5 on the Mohs scale against pure gold's 2.5–3, so the bracelet's core resists bending and scratching far better than a solid-gold equivalent — the plating will show wear, but the band itself stays dimensionally stable through daily knocks.

Water resistance claims for gold-plated jewelry

  • Even with a stainless steel base, chlorine in tap water and sulfates in body washes chemically strip the gold layer, while mechanical friction from toweling acts like sandpaper; the result is that the bracelet’s water resistance is more about what it’s exposed to than the duration of wet wear.
  • Standard gold-plated jewelry typically carries an electroplated gold layer just 0.5 to 1 micron thick — far below the 2+ microns that mark heavy plate or vermeil — so for this stainless steel bracelet, daily showering can erode the gold finish in weeks, revealing the corrosion-resistant steel underneath.
  • Because the base metal is stainless steel — unlike the brass or copper used in most fashion gold-plated pieces — oxidation and skin discoloration are unlikely even after the gold layer wears thin, meaning the bracelet will look dull but won’t cause the greenish marks typical of brass-based plating loss.

Q&A

6 answered
How many wears does the gold plating typically last before showing signs of wear or fading?
Multiple user reports indicate the gold plating can wear off after the first wear, with some noting visible fading within a few uses. However, longevity varies depending on wear and care.
What is the full range of wrist sizes this bracelet can accommodate with the adjustable extender chain?
The bracelet has a total length of 17.5 cm (about 6.9 inches) with an adjustable extender chain, typically adding 2–3 cm, so it can accommodate wrist sizes roughly from 14.5 cm to 17.5 cm. Exact range depends on the extender's length, which is not specified.
Is the base metal under the gold plating surgical-grade stainless steel or a different alloy?
The base metal under the gold plating is stainless steel, as indicated in the product materials.
Are there any specific care instructions to prevent tarnishing or peeling of the gold plating?
We recommend avoiding contact with water, perfumes, lotions, and chemicals to minimize tarnishing or peeling. Store in a dry, airtight container and gently clean with a soft cloth after each wear. Gold plating is delicate and may wear off over time.
Is Twenty Compass jewelry durable?
According to multiple users, the gold plating wears off quickly, sometimes after the first wear.
Does Twenty Compass have good customer service?
No, they reportedly refuse refunds, only offering store credit, and make the customer pay return shipping.

  • Detailed complaint about Twenty Compass quality and service

Really bad quality of gold. Their plated product goes off after the first time I wear them. I bought two different rings, both really cheap. Really disappointed from their products and the customer services. Even if they admit that their products have a default, they would not want to refund me. They wanted me to return the product and give me a store credit. Which is all on the customer to paid for their poor quality product and shipping. Would not recommend to anyone. Be careful, it has been time consuming to try to deal with them
