Product Insights
The Anouk Small Hoops from the exclusive Simons X Midi34 Collection are 8mm huggie earrings with solid nacre freshwater pearls that deepen in luster with daily wear. Crafted from 14k gold-plated sterling silver, they are hypoallergenic and more durable than brass after plating wears, though the gold finish may last only 6 months to 2 years before needing re-plating. Designed and assembled in Quebec City and sold exclusively at La Maison Simons, these earrings offer a locally crafted alternative to premium vermeil at a lower price point, balancing delicate aesthetics with mindful material trade-offs.

Deep Research
How these earrings compare to similar options
- At just 8 mm in length, the Anouk is a true micro-hoop that sits close to the earlobe — a silhouette that mirrors fine-jewelry mini pearl hoops like Mejuri's Mira Round Pearl Hoops, but at $69 it delivers the same petite aesthetic for less than half the $178 entry point.
- The Anouk uses genuine freshwater pearls, whose organic luster and slight natural irregularity distinguish them from the unspecified 'pearl detailing' of cheaper brass hoops — a material cue that signals a move toward fine-jewelry authenticity within a $69 piece.
- At $69, the Anouk splits the difference between entry-level fashion pearl hoops at $35 and premium 18k vermeil styles at $178 — a price that directly reflects the upgrade from brass to sterling silver and from generic to freshwater pearls, without climbing into luxury-vermeil territory.
- Mejuri’s Mira Round Pearl Hoops at $178 command their premium through thicker 18k gold vermeil and 100% traceable pearls on recycled sterling; the Anouk forgoes the vermeil thickness and pearl traceability in favor of a $109 savings, making it the pragmatic choice for everyday wear that still keeps a sterling silver core.
- As an exclusive capsule developed with Quebec-based Midi34 for Simons, the Anouk carries a limited-run, Canadian-designed provenance that is absent from mass-market pearl hoops, giving the $69 price a boutique-collaboration prestige typically found at higher price points.
- Unlike budget pearl hoops that use a gold-plated brass core, the Anouk is built on 14-karat gold-plated sterling silver — a hypoallergenic precious metal base that feels noticeably more substantial and resists wear better than the brass found in $35 options like the Zjoosh Tiny Pearl Hoops, making the $69 price a material upgrade rather than a design premium.
How 8mm hoops look and fit
- The 8mm diameter places these within the smallest hoop category — huggies — meaning they sit flush to the earlobe without dropping below it; on most adults this size stays within the lobe perimeter, delivering a subtle continuous-circle accent that works as well in cartilage or upper-lobe piercings as it does in a primary lobe placement.
- The post-and-hook clasp creates a single uninterrupted metal loop once secured, eliminating the separate friction back that can snag or work loose — because the 8mm hoop has negligible weight and no dangle, this mechanism provides a clean, low-profile closure that keeps the earring aligned front-to-back throughout wear.
14k gold plating over sterling silver
- With professional re-plating priced between $30 and $100+ per piece, restoring these earrings to their original gold finish costs as much as or more than buying a new pair, making re-plating only sensible for pieces with strong sentimental attachment or limited-edition status.
- Sterling silver substrates outlast cheaper base metals like brass or copper, so even as the gold wears, the earrings themselves hold together and avoid the rapid structural decline common in heavily worn plated fashion jewelry, allowing them to remain wearable as silver-and-pearl hoops for years beyond the plating's life.
- Without a vermeil designation, the gold layer on these earrings falls into the standard plated category, where thickness typically ranges from 0.1 to 1.0 microns — well below the 2.5-micron floor required for vermeil — which translates to a lifespan of roughly 6 months to 2 years under normal wear, after which the sterling silver base begins to show through.
Freshwater pearl quality and luster
- Freshwater pearls are almost entirely solid nacre with no bead nucleus, so they resist chipping and peeling better than bead-nucleated Akoya pearls — a meaningful advantage for small hoops that might knock against a phone, collar, or desk throughout the day.
- Freshwater mussels can produce 20–30 pearls per cycle, which makes genuine cultured pearls viable at a $69 price point without using imitations — these are real pearls, not synthetics, despite the accessible cost.
- Freshwater pearls are rarely perfectly spherical, commonly showing off-round, oval, or button shapes; for these small hoops, that natural irregularity gives each pair a subtle, handcrafted uniqueness that a perfectly uniform strand cannot replicate.
- Skin oils from regular contact gradually deepen freshwater pearl luster, so these earrings actually look richer after months of daily wear — the opposite of the tarnishing or fading that some jewelry experiences.
Midi34 brand and Simons exclusive collab
- Midi34 specializes in 14k gold vermeil — sterling silver electroplated with 14k gold — rather than the brass or base-metal cores typical of costume jewelry; the silver base is less likely to irritate ears than nickel-alloyed brass and gives the tiny 8mm hoop a satisfying weight, while the gold-to-silver bond generally outlasts flash plating on brass.
- Launched in 2019, the Midi34 x Simons collection is sold only at La Maison Simons, so the Anouk Small Hoops are not available on Midi34's own site or through other retailers — a distribution model that makes the find feel more like discovering a curated boutique piece than buying a mass-market accessory.
- While most fashion jewelry brands outsource production overseas, Midi34 designs and assembles its pieces in Quebec City — giving the Anouk Small Hoops a local-province pedigree that buyers seeking Canadian-made gifts or supporting the Quebec creative ecosystem will value.
- Midi34 was founded in 2017 by Jessie Bourgault, who channeled personal loss into a jewelry line; the name Midi34 (12:34) is both her birth time and a recurring motif in her life, and the brand philosophy — that each piece holds a story and marks time — turns the Anouk Small Hoops into something more emotionally resonant than a standard hoop earring.

I think the title should be minis instead of midis
Pretty but much smaller than I thought they would be and not very substantial. I don't think they will last long.
Erreur sur la photo
Pas reçu comme sur la photo. La photo montre que la perle est amovible alors quelle ne l’est pas . Déçue Je suis allée au service de la clientèle et c'est une erreur.
Fabulous!
I purchased a pair for myself and later got another pair for a gift! They are so pretty and not too small. Perfect size.
Small but perfect
It adds the just right amount of dressiness and flair without being too much of a statement. Comfortable and perfect for everyday wear. I like that the pearls can also be removed

Pretty but smaller than expected
These earrings are very pretty but much smaller than I expected them to be. They are very delicate, almost the size for a child.
Très délicats
Jolis petits anneaux. Parfaits au début, en apparence, mais qui sont fragiles et qui tombent facilement, malheureusement.
Q&A
2 answered- How secure is the post and hook clasp? Is there a risk of the earrings accidentally coming off?
- The earrings feature a post and hook clasp for pierced ears. While this style is generally secure, we do not have specific details on the clasp mechanism. If you are concerned about accidental loss, we suggest handling them carefully and checking the fit regularly.
- Can these earrings be worn in water, or do they require removal for swimming and showering?
- We recommend removing these earrings before swimming or showering. Gold-plated jewelry is not water-resistant, and prolonged exposure to water can accelerate tarnishing and wear of the plating.
