Product Insights

CHIMI's Dele Narrow Oval Sunglasses combine 100% UVA/UVB protection integral to the lens with prescription-grade optical clarity (Abbe 58), but trade polarization and full anti-reflective coating for a sustainable Eastman Acetate Renew frame—sturdy and durable over years of use, though susceptible to warping above 30°C. The non-polarized lenses rely solely on tint for glare reduction, and some models lack back-side AR coating, causing reflections in certain lights. At $250, buyers perceive exceptional value, with a narrow fit for small to medium faces, molded nose pads, and a Stockholm-no-logo aesthetic, but require careful storage and cleaning to maintain the acetate frame.

Verified claims

UV Protection
Blocks 100% UVA and UVB; protection is integral to lens material, not a coating.
Optical Quality
Abbe value 58 eliminates color fringing; prescription-grade clarity reduces eye strain.
AR coating
Some models lack back-side AR coating, causing distracting reflections in certain lights.
Polarization
Lenses are non-polarized per recent community feedback.
Feature balance
Sturdy Eastman Acetate Renew frame paired with lenses lacking AR and polarization.
Glare reduction
Not polarized and no anti-reflective coating; glare protection from tint only.
Fit
52×19×145mm frame fits small to medium faces, narrower than unisex norms.
Durability
Buyers report over 4 years of daily use with sturdy frames and hinges.
Heat warping
Acetate frame warps if stored above 30°C (86°F).
Nose pads
Molded nose pads eliminate adjustable pad failures.
Nose comfort
Buyers report frame not heavy; acetate is hypoallergenic.
Brand heritage
Stockholm-based brand with a no-logo philosophy and a signature metal trim.
Value
Feels like a $400 pair of sunglasses at $250, confirmed by buyers.
Material
Eastman Acetate Renew frame: 40% recycled, 60% biobased, 50% lower carbon, ISCC certified, BPA-free.
Cleaning
Use a microfiber cloth or mild soap and lukewarm water; avoid alcohol and ammonia cleaners.
Storage
Store in case lenses upward, away from temperatures above 30°C.
Maintenance
Frame can be professionally polished or heat-adjusted if needed.
Optical clarity
CR-39 Abbe 58 matches glass clarity; no AR coat, polarization disputed on newer models.

  • Positive review of CHIMI sunglasses quality

I bought two pairs last summer and wear them daily. I LOVE them. They look expensive and the quality is there.

  • Cause of reflections on CHIMI 04 lenses

Unfortunately, if the lenses don't have an AR (anti-reflective) coating on the back this can happen. I find it's only really flat lenses that give me this problem along with certain lighting conditions, ie. the sun at my back. Short of replacing the lenses I'm not sure what else can be done. Sorry, wish I had better news.

  • Long-term durability and lens changes in CHIMI sunglasses

Hey! I’ve had my Chimis for over four years now and they’ve been great—sturdy frames, sturdy hinges. I’ve stopped carrying their case around after the first year and there’s no major sign of wear and tear. They’ve been my go-to pair, as I don’t find them too heavy on the nose. That being said, I’d still only shop their sales, though. I ordered my third pair the other day and curious to see if the lense quality has changed—it seems they’re no longer polarized. If you switch your lenses to prescription, that shouldn’t be a problem. Hope this helps!

  • Comparison between Persol and CHIMI quality

Even though they're Luxottica, persol are better. Persol offers mineral glass lenses. If you are buying something like them for fashion over function, then Nordstrom Rack is a great spot to go. Brands that are the same quality as Chimi, but you can get two of them because they have an 80% discount. If you are looking for function first with fashion a close second, then serengetti is having a sale, especially for women's frames. They are way better than persol. The Serengetti Hayworth frames are some of the most beautiful I've seen. Those are around $250 now. They were $450.
