Mito Waterproof Jacket
The Mito Waterproof Jacket by Rains is a lightweight, windproof and waterproof hooded jacket designed for urban commuting and casual wear in wet weather. It features a zip front, zipped pockets, an adjustable toggle waist, hook-and-loop cuffs, and an adjustable drawstring hood, all made from a smooth, matte technical fabric. It is fully waterproof for light to moderate rain, though reviewers note limited breathability and durability concerns, making it best suited for city use rather than heavy outdoor activity.

Product Insights
The Rains Mito Waterproof Jacket is a lightweight urban shell (220g, 100% polyester) with a W3 waterproof rating that protects against moderate rain but wets out in sustained downpours; its non-breathable shell causes overheating, limiting it to short city commutes. It packs into its own pocket, fits a 32-inch bust in size small, and has a relaxed 'Coupe décontractée' with adjustable waist, cuffs, and hood, yet the rubberized shell clings to backpacks and durability issues (shell and seam degradation) are reported within a year. At CAD 229 regular it's deemed overpriced, but at CAD 99.95 sale it's fair and cheaper than Rains' Long Jacket and Suva Hardshell. It offers the same W3 rating as premium models but outdoor competitors have higher ratings; buyers favor it for style over Stutterheim. It is not noiseless and blocks over 99% UV rays.
Verified claims
- Waterproof rating
- W3 rating protects against moderate rain but wets out in heavy rain.
- Breathability
- Waterproof and windproof construction limits breathability; with no pit zips or mesh lining, the jacket can overheat during sustained exertion and is not recommended for aerobic use.
- Fit
- Relaxed 'Coupe décontractée' with adjustable waist, cuffs, and hood; fluid fabric moves naturally.
- Sizing
- Size small fits 32-inch bust, medium fits 34-inch bust; size up for chunky sweaters.
- Layering
- At 220 g with a partially lined interior, the jacket layers comfortably over a light sweatshirt or hoodie; order one size up to regularly layer a chunky sweater.
- Weight and packability
- Weighs 220 g and packs into its own pocket.
- Fabric feel
- Shell feels featherlight with a fluid drape, never stiff.
- Lineup positioning
- Mito is Rains' lightweight casual shell, lighter than the Suva Hardshell.
- Durability
- Some users report limited durability for extended outdoor use.
- Color Options
- Available in Mint/Pistachio Green, part of Rains' wide color palette.
- Brand & Exclusivity
- The Mito is part of the 'Rains at Twik' collaboration, a Simons-exclusive capsule that adapts Rains' design language into a lighter, more accessible tier.
- Fabric hand
- Fluid, 220g polyester shell avoids stiff cardboard feel.
- Noise
- The Mito's 100% polyester shell lacks the Suva Hardshell's noise-reducing matte finish, so it is not as quiet.
- Positioning and price context
- Regular CAD 229 slots Mito above basic Long Jacket; sale CAD 99.95 matches its retail, offering affordable brand entry.
- Performance vs outdoor competitors
- The Mito carries the same W3 (5,000 mm) waterproof rating as Rains' premium Suva jackets, though technical hiking shells provide higher waterproof ratings.
- Portability
- 220 g weight and self-packing design make it exceptionally portable for commuters.
- Intended use
- Urban commuter jacket for light-to-moderate rain; not for hiking, sustained heavy downpours, or aerobic activity.
- Design & Style
- Adjustable waist, cuffs, and hood produce a tailored, cool silhouette.
- Material & Weight
- 100% polyester shell: 220g, fluid-drape, lined, W3-waterproof.
- Price hierarchy
- CAD 99.95 sale: cheaper than Long Jacket (£100) and Suva Hardshell (£179).
- UV protection
- The 100% polyester shell offers meaningful incidental UV blocking, though the jacket has no rated UPF claim.
- Shell construction
- The Mito uses a 100% polyester shell rather than the Suva Hardshell's 3-layer waterproof fabric; Rains positions it as a lightweight, fair-weather casual shell, not an all-weather technical shell.
- Packed size
- When folded, the jacket is effectively unnoticeable in a tote or daypack, making it convenient for unpredictable weather.

Rains jackets are 100% waterproof, stylish, and come in many colors
Invest in one from Rains. They are 100% waterproof. They come in a million colours, various lengths and styles and completely work. I currently have 3, a festival one, a dark colour for winter and a light colour for summer (I live in Galway). They are expensive but 100% worth it and actually look cool. Also the standard ones are very light so great for throwing over a big jumper.

Rains jacket gets hot quickly and is cumbersome with backpacks
I have both the Rains jacket (in Navy) and the Patagonia as well. Great combo in my opinion. I generally won't wear the Rains jacket until it's around 60 or lower though, because I get hot pretty quickly in mine. Only other "Con" of that jacket is that it's kind of a pain in the ass with a backpack on. At least for me, it was pretty difficult to take my backpack on and off, and when I was walking the rubber would stick to the bag and pull the jacket up. Still love it though.

Rains jacket durability is poor, not worth full price for Irish weather
Had a rains, bought one for my wife. I found them ok but not worth the full price tbh. They look great but the material i find doesnt last very long, mine started to fall apart after a while. Certainly fine for light showers and urban areas but not something that will keep you dry all day. But fine for a commute. I wont buy a new one as i think if i oay another 20 euro or 40 euro i would get a better wuality jacket that still looks nice but will be able to withstand the irish climate alot better. Looking now at cragghoppers, helly hansen, and a few other brands that can mamage up to 20000ml.
