Overrated: Marimekko stuff. They used to be super high quality and worth their reputation/price. I have 40 years old classic "tasaraitapaita" from them i got as "heritage" and it's like new. Anything i bought myself later, after they outsourced manufacturing, has broke down or lost its shape.

Marimekko Unikko pattern distinct but not copyrightable
This actually looks quite different to the Marimekko print to me. Marimekko flowers are closer together, are varied in size, have stems, and the petals are more “pointy”. They are both broadly abstract floral prints, but no one can copyright that.

Marimekko as middle-class status symbol with unflattering cuts
It’s become a middle class status symbol in Finland. Almost every woman from 25 to 50 wants or owns something from Marimekko, and it’s a staple in professional women’s outfits. Especially the most well-known prints like Unikko are popular. Personally I am suffering from a bit of a ”marimekko-hangover”… Their clothing cuts have always been unflattering on my body, but on top of that it feels like a thing you just ”must” have to have, regardless of how it looks, because it’s Marimekko. I wish people would just buy what they think looks best and stop chasing status objects.

Color discrepancy between online image and actual Unikko fabric
same thought when I opened the package. lol I was kind of "ohh wrong thing was sent." I had to double check the "printed name" on the side of the fabric. but customer service saw my photo and said "it's not wrong."
