Product Insights
The Logo Cropped T-Shirt from Polo Ralph Lauren leverages heritage piqué cotton—used in premium sportswear since the 1920s—to deliver a breathable, heavyweight, wrinkle-resistant fabric that holds embroidery without puckering. However, buyers note that department-store versions may feel thinner than web-shop alternatives, and the piqué cotton can shrink 2–4% on warm wash, while the ribbed crew neck may stretch if hung to dry. The cropped fit runs short, requiring a size up for a relaxed look, and pairs best with chinos and cardigans for preppy styling. At $125 CAD, the brand cachet and fabric quality justify the price, though value is better on sale.
- Sourcing quality
Buyers report department‑store Polo items often feel thinner than web‑shop versions.
Why this is supported
A Reddit user with experience across channels notes:
the quality of the same products is way worse, really really bad: thinner materials
u/generaalalcazar in r/preppy. This suggests that the tee sold at Simons might differ from the brand's own web shop in construction quality.
- Shrinkage
Piqué cotton shrinks 2–4% in length and width on warm wash.
Why this is supported
The brand's Q&A states that this tee, like other Polo 100% cotton piqué garments, is
likely to shrink 2–4% in length and width on the first warm wash
Does the 100% piqué cotton jersey shrink after washing, and if so, how much (length and width)?. To minimize shrinkage, the Q&A recommends machine washing cold and air drying.
- Breathability
Piqué knit offers 20-30% better airflow and hides sweat without cling.
Why this is supported

Quality varies significantly between cheap and expensive lines
Yeah you bought their worst stuff from Macy‘s. I think their cheapest shirts are produced from a different manufacturer (they dont have the sewn in Polo label inside just printed) and they are horrible. I have some T-Shirts from POLO with an MSRP of 100$ and they go strong for years and had probably 100+ washes behind them and look like new.

Decline in quality over time, with exceptions for high-end lines
I can't speak on women's clothing, but the RL for men sucks in terms of quality. The only pieces that hold are the jackets and bags. Everything else is visibly deteriorated after a couple of washes.

Timeless style and good quality for higher-end pieces
All I buy now a days… the clothes last forever, the quality is top tier, it doesn’t go out of style… I buy the Oxford shirts for work… I have some that I’ve had for over 10 years and still look great… can’t say that about other brands I’ve tried like Charles thyrwitt, Calvin Klein, etc. The only shirts of theirs that might go out of style are the large polo horse logo’s or the ones with a lot of stripes or wild patterns… but the classic polo Ralph Lauren will be around forever in my opinion

Mixed bag: online orders often better than in-store purchases
Quality is at least a mixed bag. If I order online (Netherlands), the parcels come from Italy I believe and all of those pieces are of good quality. I own garments from other brands that are way better quality (ie private white vc, dale of norway, some fusalp knitwear). However if I go to the store (Bijenkorf, other local brand stores) the quality of the same products is way worse, really really bad: thinner materials, no double zippers in vests. I feel those are the clothes made originally for the outlet stores.

Overall good quality but worth buying on sale
Ralph Lauren clothes are timeless and great quality, for the most part...it’s like buying an expensive pair of shoes. You get what you pay for. Either you’re replacing your entire wardrobe every year when buying cheap clothes, because they either wear down or go out of style, or you have clothes that last a long time and are always going to be in style.
