Product Insights
The Pink Suede 574 Sneakers Women, a 1988 hybrid of the 576 upper and 577 sole, evolved from a budget value version to a grassroots icon in hip-hop and hardcore. It offers a lightweight, flexible, and cushioned ride via its polyurethane outsole, with a suede upper that enhances durability and a removable footbed for customization. However, tradeoffs abound: buyers report the shoe runs a half-size short, the toe box is shallow, and comfort divides—some find immediate all-day cushioning while others need aftermarket insoles. Recent production has shifted to lower-quality materials and less support compared to older US-made pairs, and the PU outsole can hydrolyze in damp storage. Yet at clearance prices, it remains a classic, budget-friendly beater with great value, easy to maintain with suede cleaners and protector sprays.
Verified claims
- Hybrid origin
- Designed as a hybrid of the 576 upper and 577 sole by Steven Smith in 1988.
- Cultural adoption
- From budget value version to grassroots icon in hip-hop and hardcore.
- Comfort
- Buyers split: some find all-day comfort immediately, while others find cushioning insufficient and need a break-in period or aftermarket insoles.
- Toe box
- Half sizes allow sizing up to compensate for the shallow toe box.
- Outsole
- Polyurethane outsole: lighter, more flexible, but can hydrolyze in damp storage.
- Sizing
- Buyers report the shoe runs a half-size short.
- Women's fit
- Women's-specific 574 has different fit than unisex version.
- Insole
- Removable footbed can be replaced with aftermarket insoles.
- Cleaning
- A damp cloth, suede eraser, and steam clean the suede and revive the nap.
- Protection
- Suede protector spray prevents fading and repels moisture when reapplied every 8–10 wears.
- Color preservation
- Direct sunlight and heat cause fading; a pigmented renovator restores color depth.
- Storage
- Unvarnished cedar shoe trees wick moisture and maintain shape, reducing crease-line fading.
- Weight
- Lighter than the standard rubber-soled 574, which weighs about 13.9 oz.
- Cushioning
- PU outsole adds flexibility and shock absorption for a plush stride
- Durability
- Polyurethane outsole may crumble if stored damp or unused for extended periods
- Upper sole material
- A buyer reports the upper panel is leather rather than mesh, making the shoe feel more durable.
- Value
- A buyer describes the shoe as very good quality for the price.
- Care
- Lightweight PU outsole resists hydrolysis with daily wear; suede easy to clean and protect.
- Premium comparison
- Premium New Balance models like the 990 and 9060 offer significantly better comfort and materials than the 574.
- Outsole tread
- The outsole tread is patterned after BMX bike tires for rugged, multi-surface grip.
- Women's footbed
- The removable foam footbed is specific to the women's 574 and may have slightly different padding than the standard 574 insole.

sneaker 574
Beau et bien construit parce que le haut de la semelle est en cuir et non en filet, donc chaussure plus solide. Un tout petit peu étroit.

574s as affordable, versatile beaters with decent comfort
One of my favorite beater shoes. You pretty much can always find a nice colorway on clearance somewhere for dirt cheap. No shortage in variety. Comfort is decent enough for what it is.

574 comfort depends on foot type, age, and aftermarket insoles
TBF they don’t have much support or cushion, depending on her age and various health factors. And this is why I try to order a cheap new or used pair and do a long-term try—5 minutes in the store isn’t enough. I had 574’s for a sec and didn’t care for them. Now I’m rocking all kinds of comfy shit like 9060, 920, 992, 1906R, 2002R, 990V6.

US-made 574s are superior in quality and comfort
The US made 574 is great and pretty comfortable. The Asian one isn't as good. Asian made pairs don't use the same quality and are not hand made.

574 is an iconic gateway shoe but not the most comfortable
Your NB journey is only going to get better. 574 is the iconic gateway shoe and it’s not even that comfortable.

574s are extremely comfortable for all-day city walking
I understand the love for the NB 574. I have 1 pair and they are without a doubt the comfiest casual sneaker I've ever owned. I can walk indefinitely in these all around the city and still be comfortable.

Quality of 574 has declined, becoming cheap and uncomfortable
I have bought multiple models of the 574 from about 2016 onward, I bought a pair in 2022 and the quality was noticeably cheaper. The tongue was thin, the heels felt thin and loose, the laces were skinny and thin, the overall shoe looked about the same but lacks the support of the older models. Am I alone on this? I was buying them off the website in the 2E model. The older one were the most comfortable shoes I have ever had, now they feel like cheap walmart shoes.
