Product Insights
The Cotopaxi Allpa 35L Del Día is a one-of-a-kind patchwork backpack crafted from factory offcuts, with each purchase funding poverty alleviation grants. It offers excellent internal organization and fits carry-on on budget airlines when packed to 15 cm depth, but the fixed-height hip belt rides high on average torsos, the harness feels uncomfortable for extended carry due to thin padding and protrusion, and the bag lacks structure when underpacked. The Del Día has reduced water resistance compared to the standard Allpa—scuffing easily and requiring a rain cover and fabric protector—while the side elastic pockets are too narrow for a 1L Nalgene when full. Value at $300 CAD is undermined by discomfort, reported warranty denials, and the need for aftermarket water bottle holders, though the bag's internal organization and social mission are strong points.
Verified claims

- Each Del Día bag is a one-of-a-kind patchwork from remnant fabric, and Cotopaxi is a certified B Corp.
- Water bottle pockets
- Side elastic pockets are not designed for a 1L Nalgene and do not securely hold larger bottles when fully packed.
- Attachable water bottle holder

- Laptop compartment
- The Allpa 35L Del Día has a padded laptop sleeve and a padded tablet sleeve.

Adjusting the fit for travel carry
With its adjustable padded straps, padded mesh back panel, and adjustable belt with buckle closure, this 35L backpack is designed for travelers who want to dial in how it sits on their body. Some long-term users report it feels uncomfortable when fully loaded or on long walks, and one 6-foot reviewer found the hip belt non-ergonomic, though it is removable. Expect mixed comfort experiences that depend on how heavily you pack and your body type.[1,3,4,6]
Packing a carry-on with built-in organization
This 35L backpack is designed for packing gear and clothes for travel, with a main zip compartment, padded tablet and laptop sleeves, inner pockets, front zip pockets, and two elastic side water-bottle pockets. Travelers report its clamshell, open-like-suitcase design makes it simple to pack and organize, and one long-term user found it works well as a carry-on. Note that some reviewers found it awkward to access items without opening the bag all the way, and some reported it lacks structure when underpacked or becomes less comfortable when fully loaded.[1,2,3,4,6]
Using the Allpa 35L as a travel carry-on
This pack is used by travelers as a carry-on, and one long-time owner reports it has fit in overhead bins on EasyJet, RyanAir, and AerLingus flights, among other airlines. A back loop lets you attach it to a rolling suitcase when moving through the airport. One owner recommends using the included cover, saying theirs got scuffed up, which they believe was mostly from checking the bag.[4,5,6]

| Allpa 35l Backpack Del Día Collection - Assorted And Random Colours: Choose this if you want a 35-liter carry-on travel backpack with a suitcase-style clamshell opening, padded laptop and tablet compartments, mesh inner organization, side water-bottle pockets, a rolling-suitcase loop, and a removable hip belt; travelers report it fits in overhead bins on airlines like EasyJet, RyanAir, and AerLingus, and one long-term owner calls it very durable after three years. Note that some users find it uncomfortable when fully loaded or on long walks, and the clamshell must be opened fully to reach inside. Made from repurposed nylon fabric scraps, each Del Día bag has random assorted colors, so the item you receive will not match the photo.[1,3,4,5,6] | Allpa 28l Backpack Del Día Collection - Assorted And Random Colours: Choose this if you want a 28-litre travel pack (19 inches tall) with a suitcase-style clamshell opening, built-in mesh organization, padded laptop and tablet compartments, and lockable main zippers; reviewers report it works as a personal item, fitting under airline seats, and suits smaller frames. It's built from mostly 840-denier TPU-coated nylon with YKK zippers that never jammed or broke during testing, and each Del Día piece is one-of-a-kind, assembled by a single sewer from repurposed fabric scraps—meaning the colours you receive are random and won't match the photo. Keep in mind one reviewer found it heavier than competitors (roughly 1.4 kg empty, a concern if your airline has weight limits), and the waist strap may be short for bigger bodies, though the brand offers free extenders by email after purchase.[7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15] | Allpa 26 L Backpack Del Día Collection - Assorted And Random Colours: Choose this if you want a 26 L carry-all with a padded laptop and tablet compartments, front zip pockets, two elastic water-bottle pockets, a padded mesh back, adjustable padded straps with a sternum strap, and a loop for attaching it to a rolling suitcase. Its nylon shell is made from repurposed fabric scraps, so each Del Día bag is one-of-a-kind in color, and the item you receive will not match the photo — a great fit if you embrace surprise colorways. One user found the carry comfortable and praised the front drop pocket and hidden bottom pocket, but noted the main-compartment organization can bury items, the front drop pocket limits access to the bottom of the main compartment, and the false bottom could use more padding; another found the bag far too tall, though it reportedly still worked as a personal item on non-budget domestic airlines.[16,17,18,19] |

Extensive critique of Allpa 35 comfort and design
I used the Allpa 35 for years and actually don’t recommend it. It’s bulky, heavy, and when fully loaded it’s not very comfortable. It gives that turtle sensation with hardly anything in it, which is annoying because it’s also floppy when underpacked. I dislike that to get an item from inside my bag, I have to flop the whole thing open then open the inside zippers. Totally a personal preference thing, but I found I also much prefer a U shaped zipper with a large packing area vs clamshell design with half your packing on each side. I didn’t like that the subdivided sections force you to pack to the bag’s restrictions (certain items only fit in one section etc) rather than your personal packing style. I bought the ULA Dragonfly 30 which somehow packs the same amount of stuff as the Allpa 35 yet solved all of the problems I described.

Comparison of Allpa 35 comfort to Osprey Fairview
Yeah, no contest. I bought an Allpa 35 on Black Friday, but I'm returning it. I love the organization, but its a really uncomfortable pack. Maybe I'm spoiled since I've only used versions of the Osprey Farpoint, but its like night and day. I would compare the padding on the Allpa to an overloaded jansport school backpack, while wearing the Osprey is like someone giving me a warm hug.

Allpa 35 durability and comfort trade-offs
I have used one for couple of years now, it works great as a carryon, very durable, and i love the open like suitcase design but the main complaint is it is not that comfortable for walking long distances.

Detailed downsides: organization, water bottle, hip belt, Del Día material
The clamshell design is simple to pack and organize initially, but difficult to access without opening it all the way up. * The top pocket can usually fit the stuff I want handy (10,000mAh battery, e-reader, 18oz Hydro Flask, toiletries for airport checkpoint removal), but there's nothing to keep everything separate and secure, plus the water bottle has to go in horizontally. The top pocket does have a small single internal zippered mesh pocket with its own two small sleeves, but whatever small things I throw in there (wired earbuds, cables, keys, chapstick, hair ties) invariably fall out of the sleeves and get tangled up. Also, the top pocket's capacity may decrease as you fill up the rest of the bag, especially the main clamshell left side's two upper subdivided mesh compartments and the space behind them. * Hip belt is not ergonomic (6'M), but at least it's removable (apparently wasn't on older models). * Lacks structure when not mostly or fully packed. No compression. * I got the Del Dia, which lacks the TPU coating that some users complain scuffs/cracks. Still plenty durable, plus I get compliments on the colors.

Warranty claim denied for zipper failure
"Guaranteed for Good" Couldnt be further from the truth. Until, recently I've been a big Cotopaxi fan, mainly based on the design functionality for the Allpa 35 pack. Recently, I was on a trip and under normal use, the inside zipper pulled apart. The bag is just over a year old. I expected a company like Cotopaxi to stand behind this simple product failure. After submitting a warranty claim, several days later, I received an email stating that this is not covered under warranty and they suggested I pay for a third party repair service. I've been a big Cotopaxi fan for a while and will never purchase a product again. There are many similar/superior quality product companies that stand behind their product.

Airline compatibility and scuffing issues
I have the 35L and it’s fit overhead on EasyJet, RyanAir, and AerLingus. Tons more too, I’ve had it for three years now and still love it. If you do get one, I recommend using the cover it comes with. I didn’t and mine is all scuffed up now. I think it’s mostly from checking it but I’ve definitely got some scratches from other places, too.
