Sweet Point Stretch Openwork Halter Bralette
This Sweet Point stretch openwork halter bralette from Free People at Miiyu is made from a slightly openwork polyamide-blend fabric with soft unpadded wireless cups, an elastic band below the bust, halter straps, and scalloped lace trim. It provides light support, making it suitable for lounging or low-impact wear rather than high-support activities. Customer reviews note the fabric can feel scratchy and may shrink significantly after washing, so it is best suited for smaller busts and gentle care.

Product Insights
The Sweet Point Stretch Openwork Halter Bralette by Free People ($49 CAD) offers a breathable, non-constricting fit with an open pointelle knit that drapes gently and retains shape, ideal for lounging. However, significant trade-offs include minimal support due to thin straps and no underband (unsuitable for D+ cups), a scratchy initial texture that softens after washing but can cause shrinkage, and a short size that runs even smaller post-wash. The halter straps tie at the neck but lack width or band adjustability, and the bralette requires hand-washing to prevent snagging and shape loss. While a matching thong is available for a coordinated set, the $49 CAD price (43% markup over the US $28) offers less support than similarly priced competitors like Aerie and Calvin Klein, and buyers report issues with loose threads, trim that doesn't stay flat, and significant shrinkage necessitating sizing up.
Verified claims
- Sizing
- Small runs short even for petite frames and shrinks significantly with washing.
- Adjustability
- Halter straps tie at the neck but offer no width or band adjustment.
- Initial texture
- Buyers report scratchy initial texture that softens after one wash but may cause shrinkage.
- Breathability
- Openwork ventilation keeps the bralette cool and reduces clammy feeling.
- Fit
- Bralette holds shape over time and drapes gently without constriction.
- Care
- Hand-wash and dry flat required to prevent snagging and shape loss.
- Material
- 92% polyamide / 8% elastane pointelle knit stretches without compression, limiting support.
- Support
- Thin straps and no underband provide minimal support for D+ cup sizes.
- Fabric quality
- Buyers report scratchy fabric, loose threads, and trim that doesn't stay flat.
- Durability
- Shrinks after washing and requires hand washing to maintain integrity.
- Value
- At $49 CAD (43% markup from $28 US), it offers less support than similarly priced Aerie and Calvin Klein bralettes.
- Set compatibility
- A matching thong (sold separately) is available to pair with the bralette for a coordinated set.
- Drape
- Open pointelle knit provides a loose, non-binding drape that retains its shape.

- Light support and open design make it ideal for lounging, not high-impact activity.
- Shrinkage
- Shrinks significantly after washing; size up or expect a shorter fit.
- Design trim
- Scalloped picot trim coordinates the bralette with a matching thong, but some buyers report bottom ruffles need readjustment.

Deep Research
Value compared to similar-priced bralettes
- The Calvin Klein Motive bralette at $40 full price offers a cotton-modal blend, removable cups, and a thick underbust band for day-long support; by contrast, the Sweet Point’s $28 deliberately omits those structural elements to deliver a minimalist halter shape with a decorative openwork finish, positioning it as a statement piece in the under-$30 fashion bracket rather than an everyday functional bra.
- When Glamour editors crowned the Hanes Cotton String Bralette 3-pack the best multipack at $16, they established a $5-per-bra utility baseline; the Sweet Point’s $28 price point sits 5× above that baseline in the fashion-lounge tier, where the draw is Free People’s bohemian design language and openwork texture, not sheer comfort value.
- Across the Sweet Point range — seamless halter, longline, bikini, and thong — every piece is listed at $28 on US aggregators, signaling that Free People designed this family explicitly as an entry-price line to capture trend-conscious shoppers who want the brand's aesthetic without the $48+ typical of its lace bralettes.
- The Sweet Point Halter Bralette retails for $28 USD at US retailers like Lyst, but jumps to 49 CAD at Canada's Simons — a roughly 43% markup after currency conversion that reflects typical Canadian import duties and department-store premiums on Free People intimates, putting it at parity with mid-tier US bralette prices for the Canadian buyer.
- Glamour's 2026 cotton bra roundup lists the Aerie Overslept Cotton Plunge Bralette at $22 (sale) with adjustable straps, hook-eye closure, and picot trim; the Sweet Point trades those functional features for a halter-neck openwork design, meaning the $6 difference is essentially a style swap — you pay for a more fashion-forward silhouette rather than structural versatility.
Sweet Point collection design and support level
- Across the Sweet Point range, picot elastic or scalloped lace trim is the repeating finish — the bikini features delicate picot elastic edges and the longline bralette features airy picot trim — which on this halter bralette forms a decorative frame around the bust and neck, making it instantly recognizable as part of the line.
- The halter bralette has a dedicated matching thong (style 3757-26203) sold separately, a detail that signals the design was conceived as a full look — the type of coordinated set-builder typical of the Intimately line’s blend of lingerie and loungewear.
How openwork pointelle knit wears and breathes
- The fine eyelets leave yarn loops exposed and prone to snagging, so hand washing and flat drying are non-negotiable — skipping the machine cycle preserves the crisp scallop of the picot trim and prevents the openwork pattern from distorting.
- The Sweet Point collection uses 92% polyamide and 8% elastane, so the bralette gains recovery memory from the elastane — unlike pure-cotton pointelle that can stretch out permanently, this blend resists bagging and retains its shape after hours of wear.
- Pointelle is formed by shifting loops between needles to leave small eyelet holes that actively ventilate the skin, so this bralette runs cool during warm-weather lounging rather than holding heat like a solid jersey.
- Unlike rib knits that tightly pull in, pointelle fabric has inherent mechanical stretch that lets it drape loosely over the body — so the bralette provides gentle support without the tight band constriction that can crease skin during long wear.
Polyamide-elastane fabric feel and durability
- Because polyamide fibers are moderately hydrophilic, they absorb and disperse moisture better than polyester, reducing the clammy, stuck-on feeling that can accompany synthetic bras during humid weather or light activity.
- The polyamide-elastane blend stands up well to body oils, sunscreens, and cosmetics, which helps the fabric retain its original color and integrity through repeated wear and washing.

Q&A
5 answered- What are the recommended washing and drying instructions to minimize shrinkage and maintain fabric integrity?
- The product listing does not include specific washing instructions, but based on the delicate lace and stretch polyamide fabric, we recommend hand washing in cold water and laying flat to dry to minimize shrinkage and maintain fabric integrity.
- Are the halter straps adjustable in length, and do they have removable padding or a way to convert to a regular strap?
- The product description does not specify strap adjustability. Halter straps on this bralette are typically tied at the neck, allowing some adjustability in length, but they are not convertible to regular straps and do not have removable padding.
- Does it provide support for larger busts?
- No, the straps are thin and there's no band, so it offers minimal support.
- How is the quality?
- Poor; it's scratchy, shrinks, and shows wear quickly.
- Is the sizing accurate?
- The Small can feel too short even for petite frames.

Concerns about lack of support and thin fabric
Well.....I know my big boobs very well and my boulders would not work in this top. The straps are not wide enough and stretchy. The fabric looks thin with too much stretch and there's no band underneath the breast to hold them up/in place. Plus, I'm not 20 anymore and they're not perky. It's a cute top though but I would be daydreaming if I think I could ever get this bralette to work....

Description of poor quality and sizing issues
I think I was one of the few people who initially saw the bralette and thought I HAD to have it. Once it arrived, I was really surprised by the scratchy fabric quality and that mine had generic unbranded Made In China tags still attached, especially coming from a brand like Free People. If it wasn’t for the teeny tiny ‘fp’ on the tag logo, I would have never guessed this was from FP because it feels like a piece you would get out of a $14.99 intimates basics set. I gave it a wash before wearing and it softened it up but it also shrunk it a ton and there’s already lots of small threads hanging. This will only last a few more washes before looking beat up. The ruffles on the bottom part dont stay down when I wear it. I was also surprised by sizing. I’m 5’ 5”, 100 lbs and didn’t think I’d have any sizing issues, but I feel like the Small is too small (short) even for me. This was a dud Cat 1 pick on my end.
