Product Insights

Huha's Plain Mineral Bikini Panty pairs a buttery-soft TENCEL Modal body with a SMARTCEL lyocell gusset containing 16% pharmaceutical-grade zinc oxide that transfers zinc to skin, helping manage external conditions like HS and eczema while reducing odor and chafing via moisture-wicking fabric that dries 50% faster than cotton and wide low-pressure flat seams. The zinc antimicrobial action retains 79–98% effectiveness after 100 washes, but the panty costs about $12 more than basic modal and is not proven for internal infections; it is OEKO-TEX certified, designed in Canada, made in China, and buyers recommend sizing up.

Deep Research

Seam-free gusset design and all-day comfort

  • Huha's signature wide gusset is designed for full anatomical enclosure, addressing the common complaint that mainstream underwear gussets, which average 5–7 cm in width, are too narrow for the 56% of women with more pronounced labia — the extra coverage reduces the chance of the edge digging in and causing chafing or insecurity.
  • The gusset is finished with low-pressure flat seams that sit nearly flush against the skin, avoiding the raised, abrasive edge of standard overlocked seams — this detail is what makes the panty viable for people with hidradenitis suppurativa or similar conditions where friction triggers flare-ups, as reflected in user community reports of the brand helping manage bacterial load on skin.
  • The gusset uses a single layer of 88% TENCEL lyocell (blended with SMARTCEL and a touch of spandex) instead of the traditional double-layer cotton, which eliminates the inner seam pocket and reduces bulk — the result is a lighter, more flexible feel that stays discreet under clothing and is especially appealing to those who find double-layer panels too thick or warm.
  • Knitting pharmaceutical-grade zinc oxide directly into the TENCEL lyocell fibers of the single-layer gusset provides built-in antimicrobial and soothing action, so the lining can help manage odor and irritation without the extra fabric weight of a double-layer barrier — this is what underpins the brand’s ‘mineral underwear’ positioning and its appeal for anyone seeking a protective but non-bulky crotch panel.

How zinc oxide in the gusset works and what to expect

  • SMARTCEL fiber is composed of approximately 16% zinc oxide by weight, a substantial concentration that yields enough mineral to create a measurably different skin environment — not a trace additive — and is part of why the gusset can inhibit odour-causing bacteria even after extended wear.
  • SMARTCEL is produced in a closed-loop process that recaptures solvents, and the cellulose-zinc fiber is fully biodegradable — so when this underwear eventually wears out, the gusset material will break down rather than persisting as microplastic pollution, a consideration for sustainability-minded intimates shoppers.
  • Smartfiber explicitly developed SMARTCEL with dermatological conditions in mind, citing people with eczema and neurodermatitis as a target group for whom the zinc oxide's anti-inflammatory action can enhance quality of life — placing this gusset's benefits beyond generic 'sensitive skin' marketing and into indication-specific textile design.
  • Unlike conventional antimicrobial topical finishes that can wash off early, SMARTCEL is spun with zinc oxide embedded within the lyocell fiber matrix, and Smartfiber's 100-cycle laundering test showed only a 2–21% drop in effectiveness — so the gusset should retain the bulk of its odour and antibacterial performance through years of regular machine washing rather than fading after the first few washes.
  • The Hohenstein textile testing institute confirmed that zinc ions actually migrate from SMARTCEL fabric to the skin during contact, the delivery route needed for any anti-inflammatory or soothing benefit — so the gusset isn't merely bacteriostatic fabric; it actively puts zinc onto the mucosa where it can work.
  • The zinc oxide loaded into the SMARTCEL lyocell gusset is zinc white pharma 4, a pharmaceutically pure grade manufactured from metallic zinc — which means it eliminates the heavy-metal impurities often found in industrial ZnO and reduces the risk of contact irritation for the vulvar skin, one of the body's more absorbent and sensitive areas.

Tencel Modal fiber properties and how they compare to cotton

  • TENCEL Modal Micro fibers measure ≤1.0 dtex (~10 μm) — roughly half the thickness of typical Upland cotton (12–22 μm) — so the yarn carries dramatically more fiber ends per cross-section, which yields the signature silk-like smoothness that reduces friction against skin and lowers the risk of chafing during all-day wear.
  • The same ≤1.0 dtex fineness that creates softness also multiplies capillary channels between fibers, enabling modal jersey to transport sweat away from skin and evaporate it roughly 50% faster than equivalent-weight cotton — a performance gap that becomes most noticeable in warm conditions or during light activity when staying dry is the difference between comfort and the clammy cling of trapped moisture.
  • TENCEL Modal’s exceptionally smooth surface and 50% better moisture absorption than cotton are cited in dermatological assessments as reducing irritation, redness, and itching in atopic dermatitis, while OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 and EU Ecolabel certifications make this one of the few underwear fibers that arrive with third-party skin-safety credentials — a genuine differentiator for women whose skin reacts to standard synthetics or conventional cotton finishes.
  • Lenzing’s own instrumental testing via Tissue Softness Analyzer and ring pull-through shows that Modal and Micromodal fabrics maintain their softness ranking after repeated wash cycles while cotton progressively roughens, so the 'buttery' hand of this bikini is a lasting fiber property that survives the laundry abuse underwear sees.
  • Published studies comparing Tencel to cotton report better air permeability and lower water vapor resistance, directly measuring a cooler, drier skin-contact environment — for a bikini worn in the groin’s occluded microclimate, that fiber-level thermal and moisture regulation is what prevents the dreaded midday dampness that cotton underwear users often accept as normal.

How Huha compares to other premium natural underwear brands

  • The large gusset in this bikini is noted for its substantial feel, a deliberate construction choice that keeps the panty securely in place during movement and avoids the shifting that thinner gussets can cause—something that directly addresses a common fit frustration in budget modal underwear.
  • At $28 CAD, this Huha bikini sits at the entry point of the brand’s own $25–50 USD range and is priced comparably to the ~$16 USD per-pair cost of a MeUndies micromodal 6-pack; the zinc-oxide gusset is the differentiator, meaning the premium over modal-only packs directly reflects the targeted antimicrobial feature rather than baseline fabric quality.
  • Unlike Quince's 6-pack Micromodal Bikini, which lists a single 92% micromodal/8% spandex composition with no separate gusset layer, Huha pairs its Tencel Modal body with a SMARTCEL lyocell gusset that embeds zinc oxide; this built-in antimicrobial layer is the constructional reason the Huha bikini costs more than twice as much per pair, and it speaks to a buyer who sees odor control as a primary health function rather than a fabric bonus.

Q&A

8 answered
How do the fabric and seams hold up after regular washing—any reported issues with pilling, holes, or elastic degradation?
Customer feedback reports occasional issues like holes appearing after limited wear with regular washing. To help extend the garment's life, we recommend machine washing cold on a gentle cycle and hanging to dry [3].
Does the zinc oxide in the gusset maintain its antimicrobial properties after multiple washes, or does the effect diminish over time?
The antimicrobial effects of the zinc oxide gusset are not proven to last indefinitely. Customer feedback and independent reviews suggest the properties may diminish with repeated washing.
Should I size up from my usual size in this bikini panty, based on customer fit feedback?
We recommend using your hip measurement as a guide for the best fit [3]. Some customer reviews suggest sizing up for a more comfortable fit.
What specific care routine (e.g., detergent type, wash temperature, drying method) is recommended to preserve the zinc oxide infusion and extend the garment's life?
To preserve the zinc oxide and fabric, we recommend machine washing cold on a gentle cycle and laying flat to dry [3]. Avoid fabric softeners and high heat, as these can degrade the antimicrobial properties.
How does the Tencel Modal Micro fabric feel compared to a typical cotton bikini—is it stretchier, smoother, or more breathable in practice?
The TENCEL Modal Micro fabric is noticeably softer, smoother, and more breathable than typical cotton. Reviewers describe it as 'buttery soft' and cooler to the touch [2].
Is Huha worth the high price?
Opinions are split: some find it worth every penny for comfort, while others recommend waiting for sales or deem it overpriced.
Does Huha actually prevent infections like UTIs or yeast infections?
There is no strong evidence; some users with skin conditions report improvement, but many see no change for internal infections like BV/yeast.
How should I wash Huha underwear?
Hand washing or delicate machine wash and air drying is recommended to maintain the fabric and zinc properties.

  • User with hidradenitis suppurativa finds comfort and reduced bacterial load

I have bought these and enjoy them. I don’t have UTI issues but have HS and so try to reduce the bacterial load in that area as per my specialist. I tried these and I found they do help in terms of breath ability and comfort (not cutting into my groin area and causing friction or pockets of moisture for bacterial growth). I had switched to fully boxer style for a while but have gone back to some normal styles with Huha. I’ve used them for about 5 months now without any flair ups :). They are expensive but actually so damn comfortable.

  • User praises breathability and zinc-infused gusset, hand washes for care

I also bought Huha underwear, its tencel modal which is supposed to be more breathable than cotton. On the gusset, it also has zinc infused to reduce bacteria growth. Its not cheap so i only have a couple pair but i hand wash them after each use and they are great.

  • Switched entirely to Huha, lauds comfort, recommends waiting for sales

I made the switch last year and won’t go back!!! Can’t say good enough things about the comfort level of these! I do recommend waiting for a sale, seems they have 1-2 times a year with good discounts to stock up. Have told all my friends about this brand as aerie underwear seems to have shrunk over the years yet is also getting more expensive and less comfy

  • Finds Huha comfy but disappointed in durability and no change in infections

I haven't noticed any changes in BV / yeast. I noticed that they generally don't hold up that well. I have cheap Target underwear that are twice as hold with no snags. But the lining on the Huha underwear has holes in it. I do think they are really comfy, but for the price and how they haven't held up well, I won't repurchase.

  • Male reviewer's spouse loves them for everyday; didn't work for him but good on sale

I totally agree! I believe I got them for around $8 a pair on a Black Friday deal. My spouse is a fan of them for a just grab it and forget it pair which I’m always hunting for new brands/pairs of those. But alas didn’t work (for me).
