Product Insights
This classic Hanky Panky thong, unchanged since 1986, has a cult following because its one-size stretch lace fits sizes 2–12, no-show scalloped edge prevents lines, and the Supima cotton gusset offers superior breathability and softness with low-impact dyes. The trade-off is that proper care—gentle hand-washing—is needed to preserve the fit and elasticity; the $44 price yields under $5 per year over a decade of use. Travelers on r/HerOneBag recommend it for packing small, drying fast, and wearing all day without riding up or chafing.

Deep Research
How scalloped edging stays invisible
- Since 1986, Hanky Panky has engineered its signature stretch lace to be invisible under clothes, so the scalloped edging on this high-waist thong is not an afterthought but a continuation of a comfort-first approach that has earned the style a cult following.
- The nylon stretch lace conforms to the body without bunching, and its scalloped perimeter acts as a seamless transition that avoids the visible outline of a separate elastic band, making the thong effectively vanish under leggings and thin fabrics.
- Unlike typical panties that roll the fabric under and sew a hem—creating a ridge that presses into skin and shows through tight clothes—the scalloped lace edge retains the natural lace finish, avoiding the bulk of a stitched hem and directly reducing the telltale panty line under form-fitting outfits.
- The lace's ability to stretch and recover repeatedly means the scalloped edge retains its flat shape wear after wear, preventing the curling or distortion that could reintroduce panty lines over time.
Stretch nylon lace: feel and longevity
- Nylon fibers are inherently softer and finer than polyester, with a subtle luster and excellent strength — this is why the lace has a luxurious, barely-there feel against the skin and avoids the stiff, plasticky character of budget synthetic lace.
- Nylon lace absorbs dye more deeply and evenly than polyester, yielding the saturated, fade-resistant black that holds its richness through repeated washes — a practical advantage for a daily-wear staple.
- While the stretch lace body provides all-over give and open-knit ventilation, the pure SUPIMA cotton gusset — made from extra-long staple cotton — adds a wicking, breathable layer in the gusset zone, keeping the thong drier and more comfortable than designs that use only synthetic lace.
Why the SUPIMA cotton gusset matters
- Supima’s documented strength advantage means the gusset withstands more wear cycles without tearing or developing holes than a conventional cotton gusset—critical for a high-elasticity garment where the crotch panel endures constant stretching and friction.
- The Supima gusset's fibers are roughly 50% longer than standard cotton fibers, creating a smoother surface with fewer protruding ends—this directly reduces friction and irritation in a high-sensitivity area while giving the panel inherent pilling resistance that keeps it soft and smooth after many wears.
- Hanky Panky dyes its Supima gusset fabric with low-impact fiber reactive dyes that avoid toxic chemicals, reducing the risk of dermal irritation for even the most sensitive skin—a detail that reflects how the brand treats the gusset as a health-oriented component, not an afterthought.
- Because Supima fibers are exceptionally fine, more can be spun into each yarn, producing a gusset fabric that feels softer and more supple against the skin—a tactile upgrade from the coarser touch of short-staple cotton, and the reason Hanky Panky’s own fabric guide classifies it as ‘ultra-premium.’
- Independent textile analysis shows Supima cotton transmits about 50% more moisture vapor per 24 hours (12,000–15,000 g/m²) than regular cotton, so the gusset actively moves perspiration away from the skin rather than trapping it—especially important given the thong’s synthetic nylon-lace body, which relies on the gusset as the primary breathable zone.

Best underwear
Been wearing these for years. Most comfortable thong ever!
These are awesome!
They are more comfortable than regular thongs. The side fabric fits comfortably over the hips so not as much pull on the thong part. Love them!

Hanky Panky lace thongs are durable and comfortable for travel
Hanky Panky, exclusively. They are SO comfy (I’m a size 12 and buy the plus sized ones, even though they claim they’re one size fits all), pack down tiny, don’t ride up, can be very easily hand washed and dry so fast. I’ve had some for more than a decade, they may be lace but they’re built to last.

Long-time Hanky Panky loyalty with occasional sales
Not what you are looking for but I am a Hanky Panky girl for life. Probably have been wearing the brand since high school and despite trying to switch to Cosabella…I went right back.

Hanky Panky thongs last longer when air-dried
I love my hanky panky thongs and meundies briefs - the key to making any brand last longer is to hang dry them! The dryer will make the elastic wear much more quickly, so make the most of whatever you get by not putting them in the dryer

Hanky Panky everyday thongs: sizing and comfort
IIRC the Hanky Panky one size fits all rec is between sizes 2-12. They're truly comfy everyday thongs and if it weren't for the price point I'd buy more to replace my old ones! I did just check their website and they do have quite a number of thongs on sale if you wanted to get a pair to try out. Lots of color varieties. Just my two cents because tbh I'm looking for thong recommendations as well!
