Product Insights
The Costumed Characters Doormat by Simons Maison combines coir's 85%+ dry soil removal with natural moisture shedding, delivering effective scraping that is gentle on bare feet and paws. Its 16x27-inch size (matching other seasonal mats for rotation) covers only 75% of a standard door and offers 1–2 footfalls per shoe, making it a decorative accent rather than a primary wipe. Priced at 18 CAD (half the cost of comparable coir mats) and lasting 24–36 months with gentle cleaning and rolled storage, the main tradeoff is its limited size and need for covered placement to avoid sun fading and water seepage—preserving its performance as a seasonal, cost-effective accent mat.
Verified claims
- Door fit
- The 16x27-inch mat covers 75% of a standard 36-inch door, below the 80%+ guideline, and is narrower than typical 18x30 mats.
- Wipe depth
- At 16 inches deep, the mat allows only one to two footfalls per shoe, so it works better as a decorative seasonal accent than as a heavy-duty dirt barrier.
- Collection consistency
- 40x70 cm size matches other Simons Maison seasonal mats, enabling rotation without resizing.
- Dirt removal
- Coir bristles remove over 85% of dry soil per step and lock debris in natural oils, while staying gentle on bare feet and paws.
- Moisture resistance
- Coir naturally sheds water and dries fast, maintaining scraping performance even in wet weather.
- Durability
- Under daily home use, a well-maintained coir mat retains scraping effectiveness for 24–36 months; gentle cleaning and rolling for storage help preserve the printed design.
- Price value
- Priced at 18 CAD, identical to other Simons Maison seasonal designs and about half the price of a Kate Aurora coir mat.
- Material
- 100% coir fibre with PVC backing resists water and mold but fades in direct sun
- Placement
- Use indoors or in a sheltered, covered outdoor spot, not in continuous weather exposure, because water can seep through the coconut fibers and reach the floor; keep rain and snow off the mat.
- Sunlight exposure
- Keep mat out of direct sunlight during use and storage to prevent design fading.
- Cleaning and maintenance
- Wipe clean with a damp cloth only—do not machine wash, soak, or hose down the mat. For the printed design, use a soft brush and a light touch, and shake or vacuum weekly to remove grit that would abrade the fibers.
- Care
- Roll, don't fold; dry thoroughly before storing to protect the printed design.
- Width coverage
- On a typical 36-inch front door, the 27-inch width covers about 75% of the opening; on a 30-inch apartment or secondary door, it covers about 90%.
- Fibre shedding
- Some coconut fiber shedding is normal, especially during initial use; regular shaking or vacuuming keeps the entryway clean, and heavy shedding may indicate a defect.
- Backing slip resistance
- The PVC backing is primarily slip-resistant, not fully waterproof, so water can still seep through the coconut fibers.
- Mold resistance
- Coir's natural lignin coating gives the mat inherent resistance to fungal and bacterial growth, making it less likely to develop musty odors or mildew.

| Costumed Characters Doormat 40 X 70 Cm Halloween Collection: Choose this for a festive Halloween welcome: a rectangular 40 x 70 cm (16 x 27 inch) orange doormat with five illustrated costumed characters, including a dog in a witch hat, a ghost, and a firefighter, printed into a coarse 100% coir fibre pile. It has a non-slip PVC backing, wipes clean with a damp cloth, and suits a sheltered entry spot since the retailer advises keeping it out of bad weather and notes that light unravelling of the fibres over time is normal.[1,2] | Blue Flowers Semi-Circular Doormat 40 X 70 Cm: Choose this if you want a semi-circular doormat with a decorative touch of little blue flowers on a patterned brown base, sized 40 x 70 cm (16 x 27 inches). It has a 100% coir (coconut fibre) front with a non-slip PVC backing and wipes clean easily with a damp cloth. Keep in mind the merchant advises sheltering it from bad weather to prolong its life and notes a light unravelling of the fibres over time is normal.[3] | Persian Treasures Doormat 45 X 100 Cm: Choose this for a covered porch, mudroom, or cottage entry where you want a long, narrow scraper mat: the 18 by 40 inches (45 x 100 cm) coir doormat with non-slip PVC backing is reported to wick moisture, scrape mud, and catch debris from multiple pairs of boots, and it wipes clean with a damp cloth. Its warm medallion-and-ornamental print in Patterned Green suits traditional exteriors, though it should stay sheltered from bad weather, since direct sun can fade the printed pattern within a few months. Note that the width runs narrow and may not fully span double-door or extra-wide thresholds, and the rough, stiff coir surface—typical of scraper-style mats—may surprise anyone expecting a softer texture.[4,5] |
