Product Insights
The sweater is an exclusive Italian import priced at $59 CAD, undercutting competitors by 3-5x. Its blend of acrylic, wool, mohair, and nylon provides natural warmth, shape retention, and a fuzzy halo without itchiness, though the acrylic prevents excessive pilling. The one-size boxy fit uses stretch knit and ribbed edging to accommodate various body types, and the cream/ivory color works in tonal outfits. However, it requires cold hand washing to avoid shrinkage, and lighter colors may be sheer under direct light.
Verified claims
- Italian exclusivity
- Exclusive direct import from Italy at $59 CAD, bypassing traditional markups.
- Price competitiveness
- $59 CAD, 3-5x less than Italian-made competitors.
- Fit
- Stretch knit and ribbed edges let the one-size boxy silhouette fit a range of body types without losing shape.
- Care
- Sweater not pre-shrunk; cold water hand wash and lay flat dry to avoid size loss.
- Structured pairing
- Front tuck with ribbed edges defines the boxy fit for a polished silhouette.
- Styling
- Cream/ivory colorway anchors tonal outfits with beige, taupe, gray, or chocolate trousers.
- Acrylic
- 60% acrylic ensures shape retention, resists pilling and shrinkage, and keeps the sweater affordable.
- Mohair
- 10% mohair adds a fuzzy halo, edge elasticity, and on-trend look without irritation.
- Warmth
- Wool and mohair provide natural warmth without adding bulk.
- Sheerness
- Lighter colors may be sheer; a camisole is recommended for coverage.
- Halo
- 10% mohair creates a fuzzy halo and diamond-like luster.
- Comfort
- The 10% mohair level avoids the itchy irritation of higher-mohair knits.
- Itchiness
- 60% acrylic, 20% wool, 10% mohair, 10% nylon: the 10% mohair is outnumbered by softer fibers, so the sweater feels smooth, not prickly.
- Pilling
- Acrylic blend resists pilling, but pilling may still occur on high-friction areas.
- Shape retention
- The sweater resists stretching and holds its shape through wear and washing.
- Color considerations
- The Ivory/Cream Beige color has a mohair luster and suits tonal styling, but it can be slightly sheer under direct light.
- Ribbed edging
- Ribbed edging at neck, cuffs and hem contains boxy volume for polished silhouette.
- Textural contrast
- Dense ribbed trims contrast with the fuzzy mohair body knit for visual depth.
- Italian design
- Italian production uses ribbed edging to structure boxy silhouettes, a boutique hallmark.

Deep Research
Boxy fit and one-size sizing
- The 60% acrylic, 20% wool, 10% mohair, 10% nylon composition gives the fabric enough mechanical stretch and recovery to make a single size work across a broad span of body types; the acrylic backbone also means the boxy shape resists stretching out and sagging through a full day of wear, so the relaxed silhouette stays intentional rather than becoming baggy.
- Tight ribbed edges at the mock neck, short sleeves, and hem provide definition to the boxy volume; without them, the relaxed cut would risk reading as undefined, but the ribbing creates crisp boundaries that keep the silhouette modern and intentional, making the sweater pair well with high-waisted trousers or a tailored skirt.
- The phrase 'Imported from Italy exclusively at Contemporaine' signals a boutique, small-run approach for Simons' in-house label, where one-size offerings and boxy shapes belong to a European aesthetic that prioritizes fabric expression over conventional graded sizing; the result feels more like a market find than a mass-produced high-street sweater.
- The wool and mohair content provides genuine warmth, yet the short sleeves shift the piece into trans-seasonal territory; it's best worn over a slim long-sleeve layer in cooler months, and the one-size boxy cut is cut generously enough that a lightweight turtleneck or fitted shirt underneath won't cause pulling or restriction across the shoulders.
Value among Italian-made mock necks
- The short sleeves — a departure from the long sleeves standard in luxury Italian mock necks like the Gran Sasso (described with ‘slim fit, long sleeves’) — designate this as a transitional-weather piece that extends the mock neck’s styling into warmer months and layered indoor looks without the bulk, while the reduced sleeve knitting also trims material cost, further enabling the low price.
- The Contemporaine sweater retails for $59 CAD, while the Gran Sasso 2-ply Super Geelong wool mock neck originally lists at $331 (sale $99.50) and the Smoritz Royal Merino mock neck at €164 — a 3–5x price gap that stems from the acrylic blend and the direct-import model, making this the most accessible Italian-made mock neck for the price-sensitive buyer seeking the ‘Made in Italy’ label.
- The inclusion of 10% mohair introduces a subtle halo and sheen — a visual signature of far costlier angora and mohair pieces — so the sweater reads as on-trend and elevated despite its acrylic core, giving the buyer a low-risk way to participate in the fluffy-knit trend that typically commands a $200+ price point for pure-mohair alternatives.
- The tagline ‘Imported from Italy exclusively at Contemporaine’ signals a private-label or direct-import arrangement that bypasses brand licensing, wholesaler, and retailer markups — the structural reason this sweater can sell for $59 CAD while carrying the ‘Made in Italy’ label, positioning it as a destination piece for buyers who value Italian provenance over brand name.
- The blend is predominantly synthetic — 60% acrylic — which acts as the cost-cutting core versus the 100% natural fibers of Italian luxury competitors (Gran Sasso’s Super Geelong wool, Smoritz’s 100% superfine merino), yet it still incorporates wool for warmth and mohair for its fluffy, light-diffusing surface, delivering a tactile experience that far exceeds what a pure acrylic sweater would offer at the same price.
- While premium Italian knits like the Gran Sasso mock neck (offered in US 40–46) provide a tailored, size-specific fit, the Contemporaine sweater’s single-size boxy silhouette is engineered for a loose, universal drape — a design that simplifies the purchase decision and signals an oversized, contemporary look ideal for layering or a relaxed aesthetic, while keeping production and inventory costs in check.
Mohair comfort and wearability
- Mohair fibers over 30 microns have stiff ends that irritate skin, and their straight, slick nature makes them poke out of yarns, but at only 10% of this sweater’s composition, they’re outnumbered by soft acrylic and wool — the surface feels smooth rather than scratchy, and the mohair contributes more of a light-catching halo than a nettle.
- Mohair’s long, smooth strands provide a natural elasticity that helps stretch and recover without breaking, which means the ribbed mock neck and cuffs resist sagging wear after wear — a durability advantage that can extend the sweater’s lifespan compared to a 100% acrylic equivalent.
- Mohair’s hollow structure traps insulating air like a performance synthetic, so the 10% inclusion adds surprising thermal heft for its weight — the sweater feels cozier than its boxy, short-sleeve cut suggests, making it a smart layering piece in cool weather.
- Even at 10%, mohair generates the glorious fuzzy halo that diffuses light and gives the sweater a depth no solid acrylic can match — the ‘diamond fiber’ reputation means the ivory variant especially catches light with a subtle, almost iridescent glow.
- For the minority who still feel a stray prickle, slipping a silk, modal, or fine-cotton long-sleeved layer between skin and mohair erases the sensation entirely — the mock neck’s silhouette stays intact, and the fix is invisible to everyone but the wearer.
How the acrylic-wool-mohair blend wears
- Acrylic’s 60% share gives the sweater dimensional stability that preserves the boxy fit and ribbed edges through repeated wear, because acrylic fibers are inherently resistant to stretching and retain their shape after washing—crucial for a short-sleeve silhouette that would lose its modern look if it bagged out.
- The 10% mohair adds a subtle fuzziness and insulates without weighing the sweater down, as mohair fibers trap air for warmth while remaining lightweight—ideal for a short-sleeve layer worn over a tee or under a jacket in cool weather.
Styling a short-sleeve mock neck sweater
- The short sleeves are a deliberate layering advantage — style guides cite the short-sleeve turtleneck as a go-to under-piece for blazers, cardigans, and coat dresses because it adds neck warmth without the sleeve bulk that can distort a jacket's line, making this sweater a year-round asset rather than just a fall piece.
- Layering this sweater under a sleeveless dress turns a summer staple into a winter outfit — fashion guides specifically recommend slipping a short-sleeve turtleneck beneath a sleeveless or long-sleeve dress to add warmth while preserving the dress’s shape, a trick that leverages the unbulky arms of this boxy piece.
- The boxy silhouette is designed to be worn with a casual front tuck into high-waisted jeans or trousers, a styling move recommended across mock neck guides to give shape to the relaxed cut without losing its drape — the soft knit also tucks smoothly without creating a bulky midsection.
- The mock neck's lower, non-folding collar creates a polished neckline that sits neatly under coats and blazers without the bulk of a turtleneck — style guides note that this makes mock necks preferred for layering because the collar stays put and frames the face cleanly.
- The Ivory/Cream Beige colorway aligns with the widespread editorial styling of cream mock necks as the anchor for tonal, wide-leg trouser outfits — style guides pair a cream mock neck with beige, taupe, or chocolate trousers for a relaxed but polished cold-weather uniform that this sweater can replicate directly.

Confort!
Mohair mock-neck sweater
Would highly recommend if you are looking for a fuzzy sweater for cool summer weather or chilly fall days. Stylish, a little buggy but in the way that you want a modern sweater to be. I generally wear a small or medium and this sweater fits perfectly. I just love this oversized, super comfortable style that goes with everything. Bought in two colors: "assorted green" (fashion mint color) and "mauve" (gorgeous lilac). Happy to add them to my collection. Thinking of buying one more as a gift. Thank you
Very stylish
Love the color, style, and softness of the material.
Passe partout
Douceur et chaleur
Great sweater
looks good, feels good, looks super stylish, love the volour
Mignon
Confo sauf pour le cou un peu serré.
Love the color and the fit
But, it just isn't soft enough.
Inconfortable
Matière qui crée des irritations, chose que je n’ai jamais vécue auparavant
Color is more orange than red
Nice knit, though a bit itchy. The color is more like a dark traffic cone orange.
Parfait
Grandeur couleur douceur tout est parfait
Gilet

Pink sweater
Beautiful colour. Nice sweater, good price
Love it!♥️
Beautiful and very comfy! I also love this colour!💙
Returned
Didn't not like the cut and it itched too much
Magnifique couleur
Un pull de magnifique couleur et belle coupe toutefois je le dois de donner cette évaluation puisque malheureusement il pique suffisamment pour être dérangeant au niveau du cou.
Loved it . But !
Would have loved to love these sweaters, however, the elastic around the collar was too tight. Also made it itchy
Cute sweater
I like the way it sits and the cut. Weven with a small percentage of mohair it is scratchy so I willbhave to wear something under to make it bearable.
Très beau
Très beau et surtout il n’est pas fait en Chine je l’aime beaucoup.
Love it
Fits perfect and the colour is beautiful
Chandail
Tellement 🤩
Chandail col montant
Parfait mais col montant fait très serré au cou, j’ai réussi à étirer le col pour pouvoir le porter, maintenant fait bien 4 * a cause du col sinon 5* pour le confort du chandail.
Photo is not accurate
This sweater is actually a crop. It appears in the photo to be a normal length sweater but in fact is quite short, pretty much a crop sweater. As a mature woman I would never order something that is crop and am disappointed that the photo and description were not accurate. I will be returning this item.
Super beau
Belle couleur - dans plusieurs commentaires élastique un peu serré au coup, je tourne le collet. Un petit peu piquant
Fresh colour

Soft, nice fit for one size item. The neck has elastic sewn in. This is a bit too tight and somewhat uncomfortable.

Q&A
4 answered- What are the recommended care instructions for this wool and mohair blend? Is it hand washable or dry clean only?
- For this blend of acrylic, wool, mohair, and nylon, we recommend hand washing in cold water with a mild detergent and laying flat to dry to prevent damage. Dry cleaning is also a safe option to maintain the garment's quality.
- How prone is this sweater to pilling given the mohair and acrylic blend, and are there any tips to minimize it?
- Like most wool and acrylic blends, this sweater may experience some pilling with wear, especially on areas of friction. To minimize pilling, wash inside out, use a fabric shaver when needed, and avoid rubbing against rough surfaces.
- Is the sweater sheer or see-through, especially in lighter colors like Ivory/Cream Beige?
- The lighter Ivory/Cream Beige color may be slightly sheer due to the knit construction, especially under direct light. We recommend wearing a nude or neutral camisole underneath for full coverage.
- Will the sweater shrink after washing, and is there any pre-shrinking treatment applied?
- Wool and mohair fibers can shrink if exposed to heat or agitation. This sweater has not been pre-shrunk. To avoid shrinkage, always hand wash in cold water and lay flat to dry. Never use hot water or a dryer.
